Iskwew Air was founded in 2018 [4] by the airline's CEO, Teara Fraser. The airline officially launched March 2019. [3] Fraser has announced plans to enter the domestic Canadian passenger charter sector, as well as offering a scheduled passenger service. [3]
Iskwew Air promotes itself as a 100% Indigenous- and woman-owned air company. [5] The airline aims to boost accessibility for remote communities across the province, as well as boosting indigenous tourism. All operations will be in cooperation with the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada. [3]
The airline's first partnership is with Homalco Wildlife & Cultural Tours based in Campbell River, where it will help provide remote nature tours. [6] On August 16, 2021, the airline launch regular scheduled service between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) South Terminal to Qualicum Beach Airport. [7]

Montréal–Trudeau International Airport or Montréal–Trudeau, formerly known and still commonly referred to as Montréal–Dorval International Airport, is an international airport in Dorval, Quebec, Canada. Island Express Air was a small Canadian airline based in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Its first flight was on August 7, 2009, as part of the Abbotsford International Airshow. It operated scheduled air service between the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, as well as charter flights and cargo service. On February 23, 2018, one of their planes, a King Air B100, crashed at Abbotsford Airport (CYXX) immediately after take-off in blizzard conditions. As a result of this accident, and due to public safety concerns, Transport Canada suspended Island Express' air operator's certificate (AOC) shortly thereafter, on February 28, 2018. However, following a robust review of the company's safety procedures the operating certificate was reinstated on June 26, 2018. The company slogan was Your Island Connection.

It focuses on a variety of initiatives having to do with heating, transport, energy consumption, recycling and noise. YVR's sustainability is also known for its green art linked to the environment and community and its indoor nature displays.
