Ismail Shafeeu (born 1956) [1] is a Maldivian politician, who is the incumbent minister of Ministry of Education. [2] [3] [4] [5] He is a former Minister of Tourism. [6] He was board member of the Maldives Monetary Authority from 1990 to 2005. [7]
He obtained an economics degree in Macquarie University, Australia. He was a Hubert Humphrey scholar and undertook a year-long program of study in Boston University. He also took a course in regional development at the UN Centre for Regional Development in Japan. [1]

The politics of the Maldives take place in the framework of a presidential representative democratic republic, whereby the President is the Head of Government. From 1887 to 1965, the country was a British protectorate while retaining full internal sovereignty. At its independence in 1965, the Maldives joined the United Nations on 20 September.
