Reception

The album received positive to mixed reviews:

"It Had to Do With Love, helped to set into motion the current trend of indie bands wanting to sound like Joe Jackson; it may not have been the biggest selling record in Vagrant’s history, but it was one of the best written, thoughtful, and properly performed pop albums ever to be released by the label." – Ink19 [3]

Allmusic writer Vincent Jeffries gave the album 3 out of 5 stars and states: "Koufax draws heavily from '70s synth-rock and pop-prog artists like ELO, Supertramp, and perhaps some early Genesis to piece together their keyboard excursions. …It Had to Do With Love might sound silly, or even boring to hardcore emo or indie fans, however, listeners who treasure bolder, more eclectic recordings will enjoy this pop experiment." – Allmusic [4]

Record producer Tim DuBois assembled the band to record demos and chose Verlon Thompson as the original lead singer, but he was replaced by Stewart in this role before the band had recorded any material. Stewart left for a solo career before Big Iron Horses, which resulted in Dittrich, Innis, and Gregg alternating as lead vocalists; Innis also departed before Matters of the Heart, and the band ultimately went on hiatus from 1994 to 1998. During this time, Jennings became a member of Vince Gill's road band, and Dittrich recorded one album in The Buffalo Club. Outside a brief reunion for new tracks on a Greatest Hits album in 1998, the band remained inactive until 2002, when Dittrich, Gregg, Innis, Jennings, and Stewart resumed touring. Two years later, they issued Still Restless on Audium Entertainment.
