Ivy Singh-Lim

Ivy Singh-Lim (born 1949) is a Singaporean farmer and former president of Netball Singapore and the Asian Federation of Netball Associations (AFNA). She is also an advocate for animals and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). Singh-Lim was inducted into the Singapore Women's Hall of Fame in 2014. Singh-Lim is also known as "The Gentle Warrior." [1]

Biography

Singh-Lim was born in Singapore in 1949 into a wealthy family where her father traced his lineage to the Rajput clan. [2] [3] She was one of four children and the only girl in the family. [4] Singh-Lim eventually became involved in working in her family's property business. [5] Singh-Lim married Lim Ho Seng, a successful businessman, in 1982. [4] [6] Together they raised Lim's daughter from a previous marriage. [4]

Between 1992 and 2005, she worked as president of Netball Singapore. [7] During her tenure, she was "widely credited with bringing new life to the sport." [3] In 1999, Singh-Lim became the president of the Asian Federation of Netball Associations (AFNA). [8] In 2000, she opened the Netball Singapore LifeHub. [8] She left netball in 2006 to focus full time on her farm. [3]

Singh-Lim and her husband founded an organic farm, Bollywood Veggies, in 2001 after they both retired from their former careers. [2] [3] Singh-Lim has served as president of the Kranji Countryside Association, which is a union of farms in Singapore and was started in 2005. [9] [6] Singh-Lim emphasizes that it is important for people to have access to nature and feels that providing public access to farms helps accomplish this goal. [9] She is also active in taking care of animals, supporting the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and in 2015 owned 19 dogs. [7] Singh-Lim and her husband live with their dogs next to the farm. [3]

Singh-Lim was inducted into the Singapore Women's Hall of Fame in 2014. [3]

Bollywood Veggies Organic Farm is a farming collective and organic growing education center located in the Kranji district of North West Singapore. The center was launched in 2000 by Ivy Singh-Lim and her husband, former NTUC FairPrice chief executive, Lim Ho Seng, as a project to run after they had both retired from their previous careers. Neil Humphreys covered the center in his 2006 book Final Notes From a Great Island.

It occurred on April 21 and April 23, 2010, performed by Robert Fawcett, who later filed a claim at WorkSafeBC for post-traumatic stress disorder. The Singapore Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is a registered animal welfare charity in Singapore.

Alanna Devine is a Canadian lawyer who practices animal law in Quebec and Ontario. She completed her undergraduate degree in criminology at the University of Toronto and obtained degrees in civil and common law at McGill University Faculty of Law in Montreal, before clerking for the Honorable Justice Louise Charron at the Supreme Court of Canada. While a student she founded the McGill Student Animal Legal Defense Fund, a chapter of the Animal Legal Defense Fund. She has been a member of the Law Society of Ontario since 2007.

Norris was a volunteer in the Royal Air Force during World War II and later became a Major in the People's Defence Force in charge of Singapore Women Auxiliary Corps.
