Along with his solo career, Grant was the de facto leader of the Philadelphia-based hip hop collective State Property, which he formed with Roc-A-Fella labelmates, and who debuted in 2002 with a namesake film in which Grant starred. Kathryn Johnston was an elderly woman from Atlanta, Georgia who was killed by undercover police officers in her home on Neal Street in northwest Atlanta on November 21, 2006, where she had lived for 17 years. Three officers had entered her home in what was later described as a 'botched' drug raid. Officers cut off burglar bars and broke down her door using a no-knock warrant. Police said Johnston fired at them and they fired in response; she fired one shot out the door over the officers' heads and they fired 39 shots, five or six of which hit her. None of the officers were injured by her gunfire, but Johnston was killed by the officers. Police injuries were later attributed to friendly fire from each other's weapons.
Thizz Entertainment is a Sacramento-based, originally independent record label, started in 1999 by rapper and music producer Andre Hicks, who was professionally known as Mac Dre, a poster child of the hyphy movement that swept through the Bay Area in the early 2000s. The label was relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area shortly after his untimely death.

It was changed to "Baby Bash" before he signed with Universal Records in 2003 and released his pop rap single, "Suga Suga", in July of that year. Tonee Hayes, better known by his stage name Nef the Pharaoh, is an American rapper from Vallejo, California. In 2014 he was selected by fans as the "Bay Area Freshman of the Year" in a yearly contest held by Thizzler.com. In early 2015, his track "Big Tymin'" became a regional hit, with a music video released shortly after Nef the Pharaoh signed with Sick Wid It Records. "Big Tymin'" was remixed by YG and Ty Dolla $ign in July 2015, and his self-titled debut EP was released on Sick Wid It on November 6, 2015. He released his full-length debut album titled The Chang Project on April 27, 2017.
Terrell Davis, better known by the stage name Ralo, is an American rapper. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, he first gained recognition following the release of his 2015 single, "Can't Lie". He signed with Birdman's Cash Money Records and Young Scooter's Black Migo Gang in 2016, which entered a joint venture with Gucci Mane's short-lived Interscope Records imprint, 1017 Eskimo Records the following year.
