Jerrell C. Jones (born March 28, 1986), [1] [2] better known by his stage name J-Kwon, is an American rapper from St. Louis, Missouri. He signed with Jermaine Dupri's So So Def Recordings, an imprint of Arista Records to release his 2004 single "Tipsy," which peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. It served as the lead single for his debut studio album Hood Hop (2004), which entered the Billboard 200 at number seven and contained the charting single "You & Me" (featuring Sadiyahh). He departed So So Def after its release, and his subsequent material failed to chart.

Life and career

At age 12, Jones was expelled from his home for allegedly dealing illegal drugs. [1] He slept at his friends' homes and in cars. After winning one rap battle, he suffered a broken jaw from childhood friend Marquise.

J-Kwon first rose to stardom with the single "Tipsy" from his 2004 album Hood Hop , which peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 on April 17, 2004, after 14 weeks on the chart. [3] [4] The song peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. It performed well internationally, peaking within the top ten of the charts in Australia and the United Kingdom. Other singles included "You & Me" with Sadiyyah and "Hood Hop."

For the 2005 film XXX: State of the Union , J-Kwon performed the single "Get XXX'd" with Petey Pablo and Ebony Eyez. J-Kwon began working on the follow-up to Hood Hop, Louisville Slugger, that same year. [5] He collaborated with comedian Andy Milonakis in "Like Dis", to promote The Andy Milonakis Show , and appeared on Bow Wow's single "Fresh Azimiz". In 2008, he released a single "Boo Boo" through his own label Hood Hop Music with album Hood Hop 2 following the next year exclusively for digital download. [6] Follow-up Hood Hop 2.5 was released on CD on July 28, 2009. Its first official single was "Louie Bounce (I Smacked Nikki)". [7]

In March 2010, J-Kwon's record label, Gracie Entertainment, said that he had been missing since early February 2010. [8] Later the same month, MTV News reported that he had been in touch with the record label, confirming he was alive and well. [9]

J-Kwon released his fourth studio album on March 23, 2010, entitled J-Kwon . [10]

In June 2013, he made a diss track titled "Pushing the Odds" produced by H Snow Beatz towards Odd Future and Pusha T after previous disses from both. [11]

He was instrumental in the commercial breakthrough of the hip hop subgenre crunk in the early 2000s, and is often credited as a progenitor of the genre. He was the frontman of the crunk group Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz, with whom he has released five albums. In addition, Lil Jon served as a record producer for most recordings by artists of whom popularized the genre; these include Miami-based rapper Pitbull, Bay Area-based rappers Too Short and E-40, and fellow Atlanta-based artists Ludacris, Ciara, and Usher.

Stayve Jerome Thomas, better known by his stage name Slim Thug, is an American rapper from Houston, Texas. He gained mainstream attention for his guest performance alongside Paul Wall on rapper Mike Jones' 2004 single "Still Tippin'." In 2005, he guest appeared alongside Bun B on Beyoncé's single "Check on It," which peaked atop the Billboard Hot 100 and won an MTV Music Video Award. That same year, he released his debut studio album Already Platinum (2005) through Geffen Records, which reached number two on the Billboard 200. Furthermore, he guest appeared on Gwen Stefani's 2005 single "Luxurious," which peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Hood Hop is the debut album by rapper J-Kwon. It was released on April 6, 2004. Club hit, "Tipsy", was successful on the US, UK and Australian charts. A popular remix of the song features Chingy and Murphy Lee. The LP sold 125,000 copies in its first week of release.

<i>Crunk Rock</i> 2010 studio album by Lil Jon

Crunk Rock is the only solo album and sixth overall album by American crunk rapper Lil Jon, released on June 8, 2010 by BME and Universal Republic. The characters at the bottom of the album's cover are Japanese katakana characters, which read "Kurunku Rokku", an approximation of the Japanese transliteration of the album's title. The album predominantly consists of guest appearances from artists including Ice Cube, Pitbull, the Ying Yang Twins, Waka Flocka Flame, the Game, Travis Porter, Damian Marley, Soulja Boy, R. Kelly and Whole Wheat Bread; the latter of whom assisted with its production alongside Drumma Boy, Benny Blanco, Dr. Luke, Steve Aoki, R. City and Shawty Redd, among others.
