The regions of Ghana are the first level of subnational government administration within the Republic of Ghana. As of 2020,there are 16 regions,which are further divided for administrative purposes into 260 local metropolitan,municipal and district assemblies.
The Brong-Ahafo region was a region in central Ghana. Brong-Ahafo was bordered to the north by the Black Volta river and to the east by the Lake Volta,and to the south by the Ashanti,Eastern and Western regions. The capital of Brong-Ahafo is Sunyani. Brong-Ahafo was created on 14 April 1959 from the then Western Ashanti and named after the main ethnic groups,the Brong and Ahafo. In 2019,as a result of the 2018 Ghanaian new regions referendum,the region was divided into three,namely Bono,Bono East and Ahafo regions,and ceased to exist.
The National Redemption Council (NRC) was the ruling Ghana military government from 13 January 1972 to 9 October 1975. Its chairman was Colonel I. K. Acheampong,who was thus also the head of state of Ghana.

Kwame Boahene Yeboah-Afari was an educator and a politician. He served in various ministerial portfolios of the first republic including serving as Ghana's first Minister for Agriculture and the first Regional Minister for the Brong Ahafo Region. He also served as a member of parliament for the Sunyani East constituency.
Stephen Willie Yeboah was a Ghanaian politician. He served as a regional commissioner for the Brong Ahafo Region,the Ashanti Region and the Western Region. He also served as a member of parliament for the Sunyani West constituency and later the Dormaa constituency.
Robert Okyere Amoako-Atta was a Ghanaian politician. During the first republic,he served as the Regional Commissioner for the Ashanti Region on three occasions. He also served as the Minister of Labour and Co-operative from 1960 to 1961 and the Regional Commissioner for the Brong Ahafo Region from 1963 to 1965. In 1954,he became the member of parliament representing the Obuasi constituency. He served in that capacity until February 1966 when the Nkrumah government was overthrown.
Harry Reginald Amonoo was a Ghanaian diplomat. He served as Ghana's ambassador to Ethiopia from 1968 to 1972,Ghana's Ambassador to the United States of America from 1972 to 1974,and Ghana's ambassador to Germany from 1974 to 1977. Prior to his ambassadorial appointments Amonoo served as principal Secretary to various ministries between 1963 and 1967. Amonoo died prior to 2018.
John Yaw Assasie was a Ghanaian soldier. He served as Chairman of the Northern Region Committee of Administration during the NLC regime,and the Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation from 1975 to 1981.
James Oppong-Boanuh is a Ghanaian lawyer and police officer. He was appointed as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the Ghana Police Service by President Nana Akufo-Addo in October 2019 and went on retirement as IGP in August 2021. Prior to being appointed as IGP,Oppong-Boanuh served in different command and staff positions including Aide-de-camp to the IGP,Chief Staff Officer to the IGP;Director-General of Welfare,Director-General of Human Resources;Regional Commander,Director-General of Legal and Prosecutions,Director-General of Administration and Deputy IGP.
William Adjei Thompson was a Ghanaian soldier and politician. He was the Greater Accra Regional Commissioner from 1975 to 1977,the Regional Commissioner for the Brong Ahafo Region from 1977 to 1978,and the Central Regional Commissioner from 1978 to June 1979. In 1985,he was reappointed Greater Accra Regional Minister and in 1986,appointed Regional Secretary for the Western Region. He remained in this position until April 1988 when he was made Greater Accra Regional Minister for a third time. He served in this capacity until 1991.
Victor Coker-Appiah was a Ghanaian soldier and politician. He served in various capacities in the National Redemption Council (NRC) military government led by Colonel I. K. Acheampong which overthrew the civilian elected government led by Kofi Abrefa Busia.
Alhaji David Amadu Iddisah was a Ghanaian military officer and politician who served in various capacities in the National Redemption Council and Supreme Military Council (Ghana) governments as well as the military.
