John Henry Cobbina,known as J. H. Cobbina,is a former Ghanaian police officer and was the Inspector General of Police of the Ghana Police Service from 13 January 1972 to 29 September[ citation needed ] 1974. [1]
Cobbina was born to John Henry Cobbina (Senior) from Sekondi,after whom he was named. [2] He became the first Police Regional Commander for the Brong-Ahafo Region on 23 September 1958. [3]
Following the coup d'état of 13 January 1972 which overthrew the Progress Party government of Kofi Abrefa Busia,Cobbina as the Inspector General of Police was appointed the Commissioner for Interior and a member of the National Redemption Council. [4] [5] [6]
The street on which the Central Police Station is located at Takoradi is named after him. [7]

The Brong-Ahafo region was a region in central Ghana. The National Redemption Council (NRC) was the ruling Ghana military government from 13 January 1972 to 9 October 1975. Its chairman was Colonel I. K. Acheampong,who was thus also the head of state of Ghana.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) is the most senior Police Officer in Ghana. The IGP is appointed by the president of Ghana acting in consultation with the Council of State. William Adjei Thompson was a Ghanaian soldier and politician. He was the Greater Accra Regional Commissioner from 1975 to 1977,the Regional Commissioner for the Brong Ahafo Region from 1977 to 1978,and the Central Regional Commissioner from 1978 to June 1979. In 1985,he was reappointed Greater Accra Regional Minister and in 1986,appointed Regional Secretary for the Western Region. He remained in this position until April 1988 when he was made Greater Accra Regional Minister for a third time. He served in this capacity until 1991.
