The Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT) is the oldest surviving Baptist convention in the state of Texas. It is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and the Baptist World Alliance. In 2009, the BGCT began to also go by the name Texas Baptists to better communicate who they are. The convention's offices are located in Dallas, Texas, though convention staff are located across the state. The president of the BGCT is Jason Burden and the Executive Director is David Hardage.
Carson–Newman University is a private Baptist university in Jefferson City, Tennessee. Carson-Newman is affiliated with the Tennessee Baptist Convention. Founded in 1851, the university enrolls about 2,500 students. Studies are offered in approximately 90 different academic programs.

George Washington Truett, also known as George W. Truett, was an American clergyman who was the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas, from 1897 until 1944, and the president of the Southern Baptist Convention from 1927 to 1929. Edwin Scott Gaustad was a professor of history at the University of California, Riverside. He achieved fame with his study of the genealogy of religion in the United States, Historical atlas of religion in America. The 1972 edition of this work has been used in secular histories of Mainline Protestantism and the Emergent church movement (denominationalism) for decades, and his a Religious History of America was a standard text for college students. A graduate of Baylor University and Brown University, Gaustad dedicated his career to sharing his expansive research on religious history. Gaustad was president of the American Society of Church History. Gaustad died March 25, 2011, in Santa Fe, New Mexico at the age of 87.
Russell H. Dilday is a pastor, educator, former seminary president, and chancellor of B.H. Carroll Theological Institute. He is best known for his tenure as President of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary until his abrupt dismissal in 1994 during the Southern Baptist Convention conservative resurgence.
Milburn Price, born 9 April 1938 in Electric Mills, Mississippi, has served most recently as Dean of the School of Performing Arts at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama from 1993 to 2006. Following his retirement, he continued to conduct the Samford Orchestra and to teach one church music course each semester until 2011. Prior to moving to Samford, he served as Dean of the School of Church Music at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky from 1981 to 1993. Earlier he was Chair of the Music Department at Furman University from 1972 to 1981. During the 2011–2012 academic year he was Visiting Professor and Acting Chair of Choral Music at Stetson University. Subsequent appointments as Visiting Professor include Mercer University (2013–2014) and Mississippi College (2014–2015).
