J. Rhodes is a music producer, composer, filmmaker, artist, author, public speaker, and educator. [1] [2] He co-wrote and produced, Welcome to America , recorded by Lecrae, which charted at #16 on Billboard 's Hot Gospel chart and earned him a Dove Award in 2015. [3] [4] [5] He has composed and produced music for artists including Killer Mike, Talib Kweli, the Game, and Royce da 5′9″. [6] [7] [8]

Early life

Justin Rhodes was born in Oak Cliff, Texas, to parents Joe and Gloria Rhodes. [12] He began writing lyrics and poetry while attending Carter High School. During his sophomore year at the University of North Texas, he began experimenting with beat machines and music production. [13] [14]

Career

Rhodes’ music career began while he was in college. In 2007, he opened the 808 Studio in downtown Dallas where he was a producer and engineer. His song "Hello", which he produced and rapped on, was featured on MTV's RapFix Live in 2010. He won the IStandard ASCAP Producer Battle, that same year. [15] [16]

He is a Dove Music Award winner, and has composed and produced music for artists including Killer Mike, Lecrae, the Game, Slim Thug, Talib Kweli, Royce da 5′9″, and Styles P. [5] [17] Rhodes' music has been featured in television and films including The Recruit , America to Me , FreeRayshawn , Coffee & Kareem , Black and Blue , and Between the World and Me , and at the 2020 Democratic National Convention. As a filmmaker, he produced and hosted the TV reality series for music producers The House of Beats, which aired on Apple TV in 2018. His music video "MakeItTakeIt" premiered at the American Black Film Festival in 2019. [19] [20] [21] In 2020, Rhodes wrote, directed, and produced the hip hop musical It’s a Wonderful Plight, which received favorable reviews and was listed among USA Today 's "The Summer Movies You Need to See" in 2021. Liberation is a collaborative album by Talib Kweli and Madlib. It was made available as a free download from Stones Throw's Rappcats website, and Kweli and Madlib's MySpace pages for the first week of 2007, beginning New Year's Eve 2007. It was removed about a week later. One cover for the album is an adaptation of a piece by guerrilla artist Banksy, and an alternative cover is a collage of Talib Kweli, a dollar sign, and the Statue of Liberty.

Jason Daniel Rawls, better known by his stage name J. Rawls, is an American hip hop musician, producer, disc jockey (DJ), educator, and speaker born in Columbus, Ohio. He is best known for his work with Masta Ace, Mos Def and Talib Kweli. Because of his work with Black Star, a hip hop group composed of Mos Def and Talib Kweli, and their debut studio album, Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star, Rawls soon became an independent hip-hop main-stay. The album became a success and was part of the late 1990s underground hip-hop explosion. Rawls has also worked with artists such as Dose One, Domo Genesis, Capital Steez, Beastie Boys, Slum Village, Diamond D, John Robinson, El Da Sensei, Sadat X, Count Bass D, Grand Agent, 9th Wonder, J-Live, Us3 and Moka Only.

Caleb Sean was born Caleb Sean McCampbell on July 3, 1986. Born into a family of musicians, Caleb began to sing and play the piano at the age of three. By the age of seven he was involved in piano recitals at his elementary school, and was playing for the children's choir at his home church in Dallas, Texas. His father was a member of the Mac Band, a pop/R&B band that gained popularity with the #1 hit "Roses are Red" in the early 1990s, and his mother was a vocalist in the band Soul Liberation. Caleb was heavily influenced by singing and playing at church and school, but became familiar with the music industry through learning from his father's experiences. Caleb began singing with his four siblings, and by high school was gaining favor through playing different musical gigs in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.
