Sylhet is a metropolitan city located in the northeastern region of Bangladesh. It is the administrative center of Sylhet Division. It is situated on the banks of the Surma River and is surrounded by the Kurirgoan, Kunachar, and Miajaner Gaon. The city has a population of approximately 700,000 people, making it the fifth-largest city in Bangladesh.
Habiganj, formerly known as Habibganj, is a district in north-eastern Bangladesh, located in the Sylhet Division. It was established as a district in 1984 as a successor to its subdivision status since 1867. It is named after its headquarters, the town of Habiganj.
Moulvibazar also spelled Maulvibazar, Moulavibazar, and Maulavibazar, is the southeastern district of Sylhet Division in northeastern Bangladesh, named after the town of Moulvibazar. Barlekha is an upazila (sub-district) of Moulvibazar District, located in Bangladesh's Sylhet Division.
Kulaura is the biggest upazila (subdistrict) of the Moulvibazar District in north-eastern Bangladesh. The total area of this upazila is 545 km2. Hakaluki Haor, the largest marsh wetland in Sylhet and one of the largest in Bangladesh is partially located there.

The economy of Sylhet is the 5th largest in the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh. It has a gross state product of $16 billion in nominal terms, and $40 billion in terms of purchasing power parity, making it the third largest behind Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna and Rajshahi. Since the formation of Bangladesh, Sylhet has been regarded as the spiritual and cultural center of the country, and often termed as the agricultural capital of Bangladesh. Due to vast natural resources and emerging metropolitan, Sylhet is a major economic hub of the country alongside Dhaka and Chittagong. In recent years, Sylhet is experiencing major infrastructural developments, and projected to be the forefront of Bangladesh's economic growth. Sylhet is known for its tea plantations. About 80% of the country's agar processing factories are located in Barlekha Upazila.
Bangladesh is an important tea-producing country. It is the 12th largest tea producer in the world. Its tea industry dates back to British rule, when the East India Company initiated the tea trade in the hills of the Sylhet region. In addition to that, tea cultivation was introduced to Greater Chittagong in 1840. Today, the country has 166 commercial tea estates, including many of the world's largest working plantations. The industry accounts for 3% of global tea production, and employs more than 4 million people.
Kala Pahar, also known as Debbarma Haphong in Khasi, is the highest peak of northern Bangladesh. Located near Robir bazar of Kulaura Upazila in Moulvibazar District, it is only 3–4 hours trekking distance from Azgarabad Tea Estate. This peak is also accessible from Rajki tea estate near Fultola bazar of Juri Upazila. The hill range of Kala Pahar is locally known as Longla Range. 'Kala Pahar' is the local name of the highest peak. According to Bangladesh Geographic society this hill is also known as 'Hararganj pahar'. In Bengali language 'hill' word means 'Pahar'. Situated in the north-eastern part of the country 60% of the range is in Bangladesh and the rest is in the Northern Tripura state of India. In Tripura, part of this hill is known as Raghunandan pahar. The famous ancient religious archaeological site of India ‘Unakoti’ lies at the foot of this hill. Kala Pahar is about 1,100 feet high from the sea level. In November 2015, members of a local adventure group of Bangladesh BD Explorer explored this peak and measured the highest point as 1,098 feet with a Garmin handheld GPS. During autumn, if the sky is clear, one can observe the blue water of Hakaluki haor(Largest haor of Bangladesh) from the high point of Kala Pahar. There are some Khasi establishments adjacent to this hill, such as Nunchora punji, Panaichora punji, Putichora punji and Baigonchora punji.

The 2018 Bangabandhu Gold Cup or simply 2018 Bangabandhu Cup was an international association football tournament organized by the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) as a tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. This was the 5th edition of the tournament with six teams competing from 1 to 12 October 2018.

James Finlay & Co was formed in 1750 and under the leadership of Kirkman Finlay became one of Scotland's leading cotton manufacturers and merchants. In the 1860s the firm came under the control of John Muir and diversified into Indian tea plantations. The cotton business was eventually closed and, after an unsuccessful period of diversification, Finlay concentrated on its core interests of tea and other agricultural produce. In 2000, the firm was acquired by John Swire & Son.

The industries under this conglomerate include port, shipping and logistics, media, health care, real estate, automobiles, finance, insurance etc. The Managing Director of the group is Saber Hossain Chowdhury, an Awami League member of parliament and son of Hedayet Hossain Chowdhury who is also a director of HRC Group, another Bangladeshi conglomerate.

The industries under this conglomerate include media, agriproducts, tea, real estate, finance, shipping etc. The Chairperson of the group is Sayeed Hossain Chowdhury, brother of Saber Hossain Chowdhury, an Awami League member of parliament and son of entrepreneur Hedayet Hossain Chowdhury, founder of Karnaphuli Group, another Bangladeshi conglomerate.
Brown and Company PLC, sometimes called Browns Group, is a conglomerate holding company in Sri Lanka. The company was founded by James Brown, a 25-year-old engineer and mechanic from London who arrived in Ceylon in 1872. In 1892, the company was incorporated and in 1991 the company became a listed company on the Colombo Stock Exchange. The company was included in S&P Sri Lanka 20 Index in June 2021. Brown and Company is one of the LMD 100 companies, an annual list of Sri Lankan listed companies by revenue, having ranked 42nd in the 2020/21 edition.
