The Cartier Racing Awards are awards in European horse racing, founded in 1991, and sponsored by Cartier. The award winners are decided by points earned in group races (40%) plus the votes cast by British racing journalists (30%) and readers of the Racing Post and The Daily Telegraph newspapers (30%).
The Japanese Horse of the Year is the highest honor given in Japanese thoroughbred horse racing. It is awarded annually by the Japan Racing Association (JRA). Since 1987 the honor has been part of the JRA Awards. This award originally started as part of the Keishū Sha Awards in 1954 and since 1972 part of the Yūshun Awards.

Gentildonna is a retired Japanese thoroughbred racehorse. In 2012 she won the Japanese Fillies Triple Crown and was voted Japanese Horse of the Year. She was also the first three-year-old filly to win the Japan Cup, in 2012, and the following year became the first two-time winner of that race. In 2014 she added victories in the Dubai Sheema Classic and the Arima Kinen earning her a second Horse of the Year award.

Epiphaneia is a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse. In 2012, he was unbeaten in three races including the Grade III Radio Nikkei Hai Nisai Stakes. In the following year, he finished second in both the Satsuki Sho and the Tokyo Yushun before winning the Kobe Shimbun Hai and the Kikuka Sho. He recorded his biggest success in 2014 when winning the Japan Cup.
Soul Stirring is a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse. As a two-year-old in 2016 she won the JRA Award for Best Two-Year-Old Filly after winning all three of her races including the Grade 1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies. In the following year she took the Tulip Sho and ran third in the Oka Sho before taking the Yushun Himba and was again rated the best of her age and sex in Japan, winning the JRA Award for Best Three-Year-Old Filly. She remained in training for two more seasons but failed to win again.
Rey de Oro is a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse. As a juvenile in 2016 he was undefeated in three races including the Grade 2 Hopeful Stakes and was rated one of the best two-year-old colts in Japan. In the following year he won the Tokyo Yushun and Kobe Shimbun Hai and finished second in the Japan Cup. At the end of the season he was rated one of the best three-year-old colts in the world and took the JRA Award for Best Three-Year-Old Colt. As a four-year-old in 2018 he won the Sankei Sho All Comers and took the autumn edition of the Tenno Sho.
Gran Alegria is a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse. After winning a minor race on her debut in 2018 she won the Saudi Arabia Royal Cup before running third in the Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes. On her first appearance as a three-year-old she won the Oka Sho. In 2020 and 2021 she was the dominator in sprinter and mile races in Japan, whilst also challenged mid-distance races in between. She won the Yasuda Kinen, Sprinters Stakes, Victoria Mile and Mile Championship, with the latter one winning twice.
Admire Mars is a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse. As a juvenile in 2018 he was undefeated in four races including the Daily Hai Nisai Stakes and the Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes and won the JRA Award for Best Two-Year-Old Colt. In his first two races of 2019 he was beaten in the Tokinominoru Kinen and the Satsuki Sho before returning to winning form to take the NHK Mile Cup. In December he won the Hong Kong Mile. He failed to win in 2020 but ran third in both the Mile Championship and the Hong Kong Mile.
Contrail is a champion Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse who won the Japanese Triple Crown in 2020. He was one of the leading two-year-olds in Japan in 2019 when he was undefeated in three races including the Tokyo Sports Hai Nisai Stakes and Hopeful Stakes. In 2020 he maintained his unbeaten record with wins in the Satsuki Sho, Tokyo Yushun and Kobe Shimbun Hai before completing the Japan Triple Crown with a victory in the Kikuka Sho. He came second in the 2020 Japan Cup to champion older mare Almond Eye, winner of the 2018 Japanese Fillies Triple Crown.
Yoshito Yahagi(矢作 芳人, Yahagi Yoshito) is a trainer of Thoroughbred race horses. He has been a licensed trainer in Japan since 2004 and since 2014 has won the training title three times.
Do Deuce is a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse. He was the best two-year-old colt in Japan in 2021 when he was undefeated in three races including the Ivy Stakes and the Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes.
