Justin Boland, also known as J Boogie is a DJ, music producer, radio host, music director and music curator from San Francisco with over 25 years of experience in the music industry.

As a curator, he's responsible for the Hip-Hop and R&B libraries, editorial curation and programming Pandora's genre stations and Project Management for Pandora's programming team. Om Records is a US-based record label, established in 1995, which releases electronic music, dance music, and hip hop. The label was founded in San Francisco in 1995 by Chris Smith. Om Records releases both artist albums and various compilations. Some of the most notable compilations include Om Lounge and the Mushroom Jazz series. Om's current roster of artists includes Groove Armada, Underworld, Dirty Vegas, Bassnectar, Indiana Taurus, J Boogie, People Under The Stairs, Samantha James, Amp Live, Greenskeepers, Hot Toddy, Wagon Cookin, to name a few. Past artists have included Kaskade, Wolfgang Gartner, Ladybug Mecca, Juan Atkins and Naked Music NYC.

His style includes a mixture of downtempo, hip-hop, funk, dub, soul, afrobeat, Latin, dancehall, and electronic.

Downtempo is a genre of electronic music similar to ambient music, but with a greater emphasis on beats and a less "earthy" sound than trip hop.

Funk is a music genre that originated in African-American communities in the mid-1960s when African-American musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of soul music, jazz, and rhythm and blues (R&B). Funk de-emphasizes melody and chord progressions and focuses on a strong rhythmic groove of a bass line played by an electric bassist and a drum part played by a drummer, often at slower tempos than other popular music. Like much of African-inspired music, funk typically consists of a complex groove with rhythm instruments playing interlocking grooves that created a "hypnotic" and "danceable feel". Funk uses the same richly colored extended chords found in bebop jazz, such as minor chords with added sevenths and elevenths, or dominant seventh chords with altered ninths and thirteenths.

Dub is a genre of electronic music that grew out of reggae in the 1960s, and is commonly considered a subgenre, though it has developed to extend beyond the scope of reggae. Music in this genre consists predominantly of instrumental remixes of existing recordings and is achieved by significantly manipulating and reshaping the recordings, usually by removing the vocals from an existing music piece, and emphasizing the drum and bass parts. Other techniques include dynamically adding extensive echo, reverb, panoramic delay, and occasional dubbing of vocal or instrumental snippets from the original version or other works. It was an early form of popular electronic music. The Roland Space Echo was widely used by dub producers in the 1970s to produce echo and delay effects.

He was the co-creator of the radio show Beatsauce, along with DJs Raw B, and Wisdom on KUSF, which was awarded "Best hip-hop show" by citysearch.com, the SF Bay Guardian, and the SF Weekly. He was also one of the long time residents at Dub Mission, a weekly reggae/roots party in San Francisco at the Elbo Room.

Dub Mission

Dub Mission is a dub, dubstep, roots, and dancehall party which occurs weekly on Sunday nights at San Francisco's Elbo Room club in the Mission district. Started by DJ Sep in 1996 as a monthly venue to fill a void in the Bay Area's dub scene, Dub Mission has grown into a weekly event with a loyal fan base, and regularly features prominent dub and reggae musicians as guests. Resident DJs of Dub Mission include J Boogie, Ludichris, Vinnie Esparza, and Maneesh the Twister. Prominent stars who have performed at Dub Mission events include the Mad Professor, Adrian Sherwood, DJ Collage, Mungo's Hi Fi, Scientist, Tippa Irie, Twilight Circus Dub Sound System, and Tino Corp.

J Boogie's Dubtronic Science

His band J Boogie's Dubtronic Science, features himself DJing with FX and drum machines, plus a few other frequent contributors. [1] They play a mix of styles and feature members of Jazz Mafia on horns, an Afro Latin percussion percussionist, Aima the Dreamer, Deuce Eclipse and Rich Armstrong on vocals, and sometimes special guests such as Zion I or Lyrics Born. Although Dubtronic Science uses production techniques popularized in dub music, the album does not fall under that genre.

The Jazz Mafia is a young American musical collective that incorporates smaller ensembles into a larger family. The collective is based in the Mission District of San Francisco, California where it writes, plays, and arranges jazz music while incorporating genres such as electronica, soul, funk, big band, symphonic, and hip-hop. Its founder and leader, trombonist and bass guitarist Adam Theis, participates in at least ten bands, including Realistic Orchestra, Shotgun Wedding Quintet, Shotgun Wedding Hip-Hop Symphony, Jazz Mafia Horns, Supertaster, and the Joe Bagale Band.

DJ work

J Boogie has been DJing since 1991. He started on the radio in college radio at KUSF. When DJing, he integrates various techniques and musical genres including dub, soul, hip–hop, reggae, funk, Latin, afro-beat, bhangra, dancehall, disco, electro and house.

J Boogie DJs around the world at places like APT, Turntables on the Hudson, Deep Space NYC, 18th Street Lounge, Halo, Temple Bar, Afro Funke, Root Down, Firecracker, The Do Over and Deep LA. He has also been on tour with Widespread Panic, Bassnectar and Spearhead, and has opened for George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Mark Farina, Louie Vega, DJ Krush, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Breakestra, RJD2, PPP, and Nickodemus.

He has also performed at the music festivals Bumbershoot, Bonnaroo, SXSW, WMC, Harmony Fest, Earthdance, High Sierra, Power to the Peaceful and Burning Man.

J Boogie's self-titled debut album was released in 2003, featuring artists like Goapele, Gina Rene, People Under The Stairs, Capital A and Tony Moses. His next release on Om Records, Live in the Mix, was a mix CD featuring two new original songs, "You're a Murdera" featuring Deuce Eclipse and Zion I, and "Purple Perpendicular Phonics", featuring P.E.A.C.E. and Raashan Ahmad.

His third release on Om, Soul Vibrations, features The Rebirth, Rich Medina, Lyrics Born, Ohmega Watts, Zion I, Crown City Rockers, Jennifer Johns, Deuce Eclipse, Capitol A, The Mamaz, Jazz Mafia, Lunar Heights, Jrod Indigo, Tony Moses and more.

J Boogie has also released several mixtapes and remixes. His has remixed DJ Vadim, Alice Russell, Miguel Migs, Karsh Kale, The Rebirth, Zeph & Azeem, Mark Farina, Zion I, Goapele and Soulstice. His mix CDs are Leftism 1 & 2 with Sake One, In the Mood I & II, Universal B Breaks, Electro Soul, Live in the Bedroom, and Live on the Dancefloor. He has been featured on compilations like Mark Farina’s Mushroom Jazz 5 & 6, the Om Lounge series, and Ubiquity compilations and remix projects.

Mark Farina is a disc jockey and musician, known for his Chicago house, acid jazz and downtempo works. Notable releases include Mood and the Mushroom Jazz series, and recently known also from house compilations El Divinio. He is primarily identified with the house music scene in San Francisco, California. Farina resides in Dallas, Texas, but DJs widely around the world.

Colossal is an indie rock band from Elgin, Illinois formed in 2001. They have one EP and one full-length, and have appeared on multiple compilations. Their lyrics and musicianship display a depth much like that found in math rock.

A disc jockey, often abbreviated as DJ, is a person who plays existing recorded music for a live audience. Most common types of DJs include radio DJ, club DJ who performs at a nightclub or music festival and turntablist who uses record players, usually turntables, to manipulate sounds on phonograph records. Adam Freeland is an English record producer and DJ. He is also the owner and creative director of the record label Marine Parade, which has released material by artists including Evil Nine, ILS, Alex Metric and Jape. Born in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, he first began DJing in 1991, originally mixing deep house and later drum and bass. Mushroom Jazz is a series of musical compilations by DJ Mark Farina. Originating in 1992 these were released on cassette tape, then since 1997 have been commercial CD and vinyl releases. Farina combines elements of downtempo, hip hop, jazz and R&B, French, Latin, beatmatching and mixing songs together. As with Farina's house mixes, the Mushroom Jazz series incorporates transitional effects and a generally dry reverb tone.

Walter Gibbons was an American record producer, early disco DJ, and remixer. He helped pioneer the remix and 12" single in America, and was among the most influential New York DJs of the 1970s.

Manuel Joseph "Man" Parrish is an American composer, songwriter, vocalist and producer. He, along with artists such as Yellow Magic Orchestra, Kraftwerk, Art of Noise, Arthur Baker, Afrika Bambaataa, John Robie, Jellybean Benitez, Lotti Golden, Richard Scher and Aldo Marin, helped create and define electro in the early 1980s.

Stu Allan is a British dance music DJ who worked for Piccadilly Radio and Key 103 in Manchester in the 1980s and 1990s. He is arguably best known for being a pioneer of the Bay Area independent hip hop movement of the early 1990s as the production mind behind the group The Dereliks whose release "A Turn on the Wheel is Worth More than a Record Deal" is a highly sought recording over 15 years after its initial release.

Kool DJ Red Alert is an American disc jockey who rose to fame on WRKS 98.7 Kiss FM in New York City, and is recognized as one of the founding fathers of hip hop music and culture. His weekly radio show airs on WBLS 107.5 FM Saturday evenings from 6pm-7pm EST.

J.Period is a Brooklyn-based Mixtape DJ, remixer and hip-hop producer. He is best known for producing official mixtape collaborations with Q-Tip, John Legend, Nas, Big Daddy Kane, Lauryn Hill, The Roots, The Isley Brothers and Mary J. Blige, and an "audio-biography" style that incorporates personal interviews with these artists into his “Best of” compilations. His original production and remixes have also recently appeared in film trailers for Universal Pictures' American Gangster (2007) and Fox Searchlight's Street Kings (2008). In November 2008, J.Period became the first DJ/producer ever commissioned by Activision to score and produce an entire video game soundtrack—Tony Hawk's Motion for Nintendo DS.

Victor Axelrod American musician

Victor Axelrod aka Ticklah is a Brooklyn native and independent music producer and artist, who has been a continual and integral part of the NYC music scene for over a decade. As an artist he is a founding member of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, and the Easy Star All-Stars. As a producer he contributed to one of the most successful reggae albums of the 21st century, Dub Side of the Moon, as well as releasing his own critically acclaimed solo projects, including Ticklah vs. Axelrod.

King Kooba is the duo of producer Matt Harris and Charlie Tate. They are an electronica DJ duo from the United Kingdom. Legend says that they were formed over a pint of beer at Charlie's Mom's pub in London, England. They are currently signed to the Om Records label, and have done work for many of their compilations, such as the Om Lounge series. Their style consists of a mixture of funk, soul, Latin, jazz, and hip hop, with some electronic elements such as synthesizers and drum machines. Some of their music, such as the song "Blue Mosque", are influenced by Middle Eastern.

DJ Graffiti, is a Michigan based DJ, Producer and manager. He is also the founder of Overflow, a digital marketing company.

Miles Tackett American musician

Miles Tackett is best known around the world as bassist/leader of Breakestra, a funk, soul-jazz band whose records & live shows are a throwback to the pre-sampling era of Bronx DJ performances. "Music Man Miles", as he is known among the underground DJ crowd, also helms the longest-running funky soul party in Los Angeles spinning an all-vinyl set.

J.Lately

J.Lately, born Jeremy Namkung, is an American rapper from Sebastopol, California. Lately entered the hip hop scene in 2009 with his debut mixtape, Straight Outta Somewhere, presented by 2Dopeboyz.com. J.Lately’s name comes from the idea that one should continually seek change through growth and progression versus the thought that change is bad and one shouldn’t be different than they used to be, so this is him, "Lately."

Onionz is an American music producer, DJ, and musician. The native New Yorker is known for his many contributions to Electronic Music, and more specifically, his unique signature DJing style of blending House music and Techno sounds together. In 2002, he was nominated for Billboard Magazine’s Beat Box DanceStar USA Awards in the Best Breakthrough DJ category. Onionz' earliest musical influence was his father, Victor Venegas, who played upright bass alongside important Latin and Jazz musicians such as Mongo Santamaría, Celia Cruz, Nina Simone, and Harlem River Drive Band. By the age of ten, Onionz was an accomplished percussionist on his own, making regular stage appearances together with his father and other notable musicians including Candido, David Amram, Steve Berrios, and Paquito D'Rivera.
