The North Sydney Bears are an Australian rugby league football club based on Sydney’s North Shore. The club competes in the NSW Cup, having exited the National Rugby League following the 1999 NRL season after 90 years in the premier rugby league competition in Australia. There have been on-going bids to resurrect the club in the NRL as either The Bears, based in Perth and Sydney, or as the Central Coast Bears, based at Gosford. However, the Gosford bid is now unlikely
Brian Eyrl Bevan, also known by the nickname of "Wing Wizard", was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s who became the only player ever to have been inducted into both the Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame and British Rugby League Hall of Fame. An Other Nationalities representative wing and the record try scorer in the history of the Rugby League European Championship, Bevan scored a world record 796 tries, mainly for Warrington. In 2008, the centenary year of rugby league in Australia, he was named on the wing of Australia's Team of the Century (1908–2007). Bevan was the only player chosen in the team who had never represented Australia in a test match.
Harry Bath, born Alfred Henry Bath, also known by the nickname of "The Old Fox", was an Australian rugby league footballer and coach who was prominent and influential in the mid-20th century. A state and international representative who played 12 matches for Other Nationalities in the International Championship from 1949 to 1955, he played as a second-row and has been referred to as the best Australian rugby league player never to be picked for the Australian national team. Following his retirement, Bath coached in the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership for two decades, also achieving selection as the Australian national team coach.
J.C. 'Clarrie' Ives was an Australian rugby league footballer who played for the North Sydney club in the NSWRFL.
Kenneth John Irvine, also nicknamed "Mongo", was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. He holds the standing Australian record for the most tries in a first-grade career – 212. No other player has yet managed 200 tries in their Australian club career, with the closest to Irvine's tally being South Sydney Rabbitohs player Alex Johnston who has scored 195 tries. He is also the 2nd all-time top try-scorer for the Australian national team with 33, two behind Darren Lockyer's 35. Irvine's great speed is legendary and he is regarded as Australia's greatest ever winger, being named in 2008 in the list of Australian rugby league's 100 greatest players, as well as being an automatic selection for the Australian Rugby League's "Team of the Century".
Ed "Tedda" Courtney was a pioneer Australian rugby league footballer and coach. He played club football for North Sydney, Western Suburbs and representative football for the New South Wales state and Australian national sides. He is considered one of the nation's finest footballers of the 20th century.
Arthur Thomas Oxford (1894–1980) was an Australian rugby league footballer, a state and national representative whose club career was played with the Eastern Suburbs club and South Sydney from 1915 to 1929.

Ron Rowles was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s and 1950s, he was a goal-kicking wing whose club career was played with the Manly-Warringah for whom he set a number of point-scoring records in the 1950s.
Peter O'Brien (1928-2016) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s and 1950s. He played in the NSWRFL premiership for North Sydney as a winger.
Cyril McMahon nicknamed "Kelly" was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s and 1950s. He played in the NSWRFL premiership for North Sydney and Manly-Warringah as a five-eighth.

Nevyl Hand (1924-2014) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s. He played for North Sydney in the NSWRL competition as a prop.
Wayne Wigham is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s. He played most of his career at the Balmain Tigers, but he also played for the North Sydney Bears and Western Suburbs Magpies. He mostly played as a centre, but also played the occasional game on the wing.
Selby McFarlane (1891−1976) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1900s and 1910s. He played for North Sydney in the NSWRL competition.
