Before that, from 1988 until 1990, he was the Bishop of Mombasa before the diocese was elevated to an archdiocese. Prior to Mombasa, he served as the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Eldoret from 1970 until 1988. He was appointed bishop on 19 October 1970 by Pope Paul VI.
