Thane is a metropolitan city located on the northwestern side of the state of Maharashtra in India. It is an immediate neighbour of Mumbai city proper, and a part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. It is situated in the north-eastern portion of the Salsette Island.

The Holkars were a family that was part of the Maratha Confederacy, which held the rank of subahdar under Peshwa Baji Rao I. When the Maratha Empire began to weaken due to internal clashes, the Holkars declared themselves the rulers of Indore in Central India, existing as an autonomous member of the Maratha Empire until 1818. Later, their kingdom became a princely state under the protectorate of British India.
Vijay Samuel Hazare was an Indian cricketer. He captained India in 14 matches between 1951 and 1953. Colonel Cottari Kanakaiya Nayudu was an Indian cricketer and cricket administrator who served as the first-ever captain of the Indian national cricket team. He was a right-handed batsman, an accurate medium pace bowler, and a fine fielder. His ability to hit long sixes sent crowds into frenzy and became a part of Indian cricket folklore. He was chosen as one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1933. The Government of India awarded him the Padma Bhushan in 1956 — the first cricketer to be conferred the honour.

Dattajirao Krishnarao Gaekwad, known as Datta Gaekwad, is a former Indian cricketer. He appeared in 11 Test matches, toured England in 1952 and 1959 and West Indies in 1952–53. He captained the Indian team in the 1959 tour. As a batsman Gaekwad "possessed a sure defence and delightfully crisp shots especially through the covers". He was also an occasional leg spin bowler. Since May 2016, he has been India's oldest living Test cricketer.
Gulabrai Sipahimalani "Ram" Ramchand was an Indian cricketer, cricket coach and administrator who played for the national team in 33 Test matches between 1952 and 1960. In his only series as captain, he led India to its first win against Australia. According to Wisden Asia, he was one of the first cricketers to have endorsed commercial brands.

Nikhil Shankar Naik is an Indian cricketer who plays for Maharashtra cricket team. He is a right-handed batsman and occasional wicket-keeper. He made his List A debut on 27 February 2014, for Maharashtra in the 2013–14 Vijay Hazare Trophy. In 2015, he was signed up by the Indian Premier League franchise Kings XI Punjab for Rs. 30 lakh.
Punya Datta was an Indian cricketer. He played first-class cricket for Bengal and Cambridge University. In a first-class career spanning from 1944-45 to 1955-56, Dutta scored 1,459 runs with a highest of 143. He averaged 29.77 with the bat, scored 4 centuries and 5 fifties, and held 12 catches. He captured 41 wickets at 37.09, and his best innings figures were 5 for 52.
Arjun Naidu was an Indian first-class cricketer who represented Rajasthan. He made his first-class debut for Rajasthan in the 1945-46 Ranji Trophy on 2 February 1946.
Abdul Baseer (also spelled Basheer) (born 9 February 1989) is an Indian first-class cricketer, active since 2009–10, who has played for Hyderabad. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium pace bowler.
