Jacob (Jakob) Frederik Scavenius (12 September 1838 - 26 November 1915) was a Danish landowner and politician. He was a member of Folketinget from 1865 to 1901 and served as Minister of Education from 1880 to 1891.
Scavenius was born on 12 September 1838 in Copenhagen,the son of Peder Brønnum Scavenius and Charlotte S. Meincke (1811–72). He graduated from Metropolitanskolen in 1857 and earned a degree in economics (cand. polit.) in 1867. He then went on a journey to Germany,Austria,Spain and France. [1]
Scavenius was first elected for Folketinget in 1865. He served as Minister of Education from 24 August 1880 to 6 July 1891. [1]
Scavenius married Louise Sophie Castonier (4 September 1844 6 November 1920) on 21 June 1865. She was a daughter of lieutenant colonel in the Danish West Indies Frederik Julius Christian Castonier (1804–67) and Annie Catharine O'Ferral (1813–78). He was the father of Harald Scavenius. [1]
He died on 26 November 1915 and is buried at Holtug Cemetery. [3]

The Order of the Dannebrog is a Danish order of chivalry instituted in 1671 by Christian V. Until 1808,membership in the Order was limited to fifty members of noble or royal rank,who formed a single class known as White Knights to distinguish them from the Blue Knights who were members of the Order of the Elephant. In 1808,the Order was reformed and divided into four classes. The statute of the Order was amended in 1951 by a Royal Ordinance so that both men and women could be members of the Order. Today,the Order of the Dannebrog is a means of honouring and rewarding the faithful servants of the modern Danish state for meritorious civil or military service,for a particular contribution to the arts,sciences or business life,or for working for Danish interests.

Klintholm is an estate near Mons Klint on the Danish island of Møn. Originally owned by the Crown,since 1798 the estate has belonged to the Scavenius family. In 1838,a three-winged stone complex was built by G.F. Hetsch in the Neoclassical style and in 1875,a new manor house designed by August Klein in the Renaissance Revival style was completed but it was demolished in 2000.
Folehavegård is an 18th-century farmhouse in Hørsholm,Denmark. It has been owned by Karen Blixen's father Wilhelm Dinesen,as well as her younger sister Ellen Dahl,and was owned by the family for more than a hundred years. The main building,barn and stable are listed. Much of the land has been sold off. The remaining 35 hectares consist mostly of open farmland but adjoins the woodlands Folehaveskoven and Rungsted Hegn.
