Jacque LaPrarie was an American football player for the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights. He was the Rutgers' starting quarterback in 1982 and 1983, leading the team in passing yards in both years. He also set school records for interceptions in a season and interceptions in a career.

College

LaPrarie started his Rutgers career in 1981 and became the Scarlet Knights' primary quarterback as a sophomore in 1982. [1] [2] During the first game of the 1982 season, he completed 16 of 24 passes for 119 yards in a 31–8 loss to Syracuse. [3] He also had 58 rushing yards. [4] Rutgers' second game was against Penn State; they lost 49–14, and LaPrarie threw one touchdown pass. [5] On October 9, in a win over Army, he was 9 for 15 passing with 129 yards. [4] Two weeks after that, he was 12 for 19 with 196 passing yards and two touchdowns, as Rutgers defeated Colgate to move to 4–3 on the season. [2] The team finished with a record of 5–6. [4] Overall, LaPrarie completed 100 of 186 passes with 1,164 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions. [1] [4] He led the team in both passing yards and total offense yards (1,333). [6] His 17 interceptions set a Scarlet Knights team record that stood for 19 years. [1]

LaPrarie remained the starting quarterback in 1983. In the first game of the season, against Connecticut, he led Rutgers to a 22–5 victory with 173 passing yards and one touchdown. [7] However, the team lost its next four games. LaPrarie threw one touchdown pass in a loss to Army, which sent the Scarlet Knights to 1–4. [4] They eventually finished the season at 3–8; LaPrarie was 104 for 203 passing and had 1,275 yards, 7 touchdown passes, and 15 interceptions. [1] [4] He was Rutgers' leader in passing yards and total offense yards (1,328) for the second straight year. [6]

In 1984, LaPrarie played as a defensive back, as he was replaced at quarterback by Eric Hochberg. [4] That was LaPrarie's final season on the Scarlet Knights. He finished his Rutgers career with 35 interceptions, which broke Len Gasiencia's team record of 30. [1]

After serving as the quarterbacks coach for the Kean Cougars of Kean University in 2011, he was the quarterbacks coach for Wagner College in 2012 and departed after one year. In 2014 Teel resumed coaching as a graduate assistant at Rutgers.Teel is formerly the head coach for the Don Bosco Prep Ironmen football team.

Ryan Vena is a former arena football quarterback. Vena attended Colgate University in Hamilton, New York and graduated in 2000. Vena started his career in arena football in 2002. He ended his career with over 720 career passing touchdowns. His best years were with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers. He finished his career with the Philadelphia Soul in 2011.

Steve Smith is a former American football quarterback. He was the starting quarterback for the University of Michigan Wolverines from 1981 to 1983. He also played in the Canadian Football League for the Montreal Concordes in 1984 and the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1985.

Tyler Allen Sheehan is a former American football quarterback. Sheehan played collegiately at Bowling Green State University after a standout career at La Salle High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. After going undrafted in the 2010 NFL Draft, he signed with Houston Texans, where he was released after training camp. In 2011, he signed with the Cincinnati Commandos of the Continental Indoor Football League. Sheehan led the Commandos to a perfect 10-0 regular season, winning the league's MVP award. In the playoffs, Sheehan led the Commandos to the 2011 CIFL Championship Game, where they defeated the Marion Blue Racers 44-29. After the Commandos season ended, Sheehan signed with the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League, but never appeared in a game. In 2012, Sheehan returned to the Commandos and led them to a 7-2 record, this time in the United Indoor Football League. The Commandos took the first place seed into the playoffs, and won Ultimate Bowl II 62-44 over the Florida Tarpons.

Dennis M. Brown is a former American football player and coach. He played at the quarterback position for the University of Michigan from 1966 to 1968, the final three years of Bump Elliott's tenure as the school's head football coach. In his first start at quarterback, Brown broke two Big Ten Conference single-game records with 338 yards of total offense and 61 plays. At the end of his playing career at Michigan, he held most of the school's career passing records, including passing yards (2,534), pass attempts (388), and touchdown passes (20). He later served as an assistant football coach at Michigan (1972–1979), West Virginia University (1980–1987), and Arizona State University (1988–1990).

Ralph Leek was an American football player for the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights. In 1980, he was a back-up to starting quarterback Ed McMichael. In 1981, as a junior, Leek was a starter. He ran for a one-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter of the first game of the season, as Rutgers defeated Syracuse 29-27. The following week, he threw one touchdown pass in a 13-5 victory over Colgate. Leek completed 72% of his pass attempts in those two games. In the third game, against Virginia, he was intercepted three times in the first half, but Rutgers won, 3-0. The Scarlet Knights started the season 5-1 but lost their last five games to finish at 5-6. Overall, Leek completed 80 of 167 passes for 926 yards in 1981; he also had five touchdown passes and 16 interceptions. Leek led Rutgers in passing yards and total offense yards (971), but his 16 interceptions set a single-season team record which was broken by Jacque LaPrarie in 1982.

Shea Christopher Patterson is an American football quarterback for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was drafted in the 2018 Major League Baseball draft by the Texas Rangers and they retain his rights until 2024. The Michigan Panthers drafted Patterson with the first pick in the 2022 USFL Draft. Burns, the Scarlet Knights compiled a 3–8 record while competing as an independent and were outscored by their opponents 258 to 195. The team's statistical leaders included Jacque LaPrarie with 1,275 passing yards, Albert Smith with 572 rushing yards, and Andrew Baker with 857 receiving yards.

The 1982 Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team represented Rutgers University in the 1982 NCAA Division I-A football season. In their 10th season under head coach Frank R.
