Jacqueline Casalegno (1 January 1926 – 23 January 2019) was a French businesswoman. She was the founder and CEO of the Cameroonian business Chanas Assurance. [1]

Biography

Casalegno was the daughter of one of the first insurers in Cameroon. She founded Chanas Assurance after privatizing many Cameroonian agencies. She relinquished total control of the company in 2013. [2] The clients consisted of 37% private Cameroonians, 20% the Casalegno group, 20% the Société Nationale des Hydrocarbures, 18% the OGAR Group, and 5% other European partners. [3]

Casalegno died on 23 January 2019 at the age of 93. [4]

The Anglophone Crisis, also known as the Ambazonia War or the Cameroonian Civil War, is an ongoing civil war in the Southern Cameroons, a region of Cameroon known for the long-standing Anglophone problem. Following the suppression of the 2016–17 Cameroonian protests, Ambazonian separatists in the Anglophone territories of Northwest Region and Southwest Region launched a guerrilla campaign against Cameroonian security forces, and later unilaterally proclaimed the restoration of independence. In November 2017, the government of Cameroon declared war on the separatists and sent its army into the Anglophone regions.

Françoise Foning was a Cameroonian businessperson and politician for the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM). She began a career in business at age 12, opening a restaurant before entering into the tourism, transportation, food, medical and education sectors. Foning became president of CPDM's women's division in 1992 and was appointed the party's leader in Douala and the national committee five years later. In 2002, she was elected deputy mayor of Douala II and began serving in the National Assembly that same year.
