Jagath Kodithuwakku, RWP RSP ndu is a retired Sri Lankan senior army general. He was the 60th Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army(CoS) and former Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Army. [1] He also served as the Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Light Infantry. [2]

Early life and education

Jagath Kodithuwakku received his education from St. Aloysius College Galle. General Kodithuwakku completed his graduation from the University of Colombo and then went for his MS degree in Human Resource Management and a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Advancement. He also completed another Postgraduate Diploma in Conflict Resolution and Security Studies from the University of Bradford in UK. He is also a distinguished graduate of Asia Pacific Centre for Security Studies USA. [3]

Military career

He enlisted in the Sri Lanka Army on 27 October 1986 to the Intake 26 and completed the basic training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy. After completion of officer training at Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) and Pakistan Military Academy(PMA), Kodithuwakku was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry. [4] He served as the Commander Security Force - Jaffna before he joined at Deputy Chief office. [5] He retired in November 2022 from the post "Chief of staff of the Army, Sri Lanka".

The Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) provides the armour capability of the Sri Lanka Army, with vehicles such as the T-55AM2, and type 80/88 main battle tanks; the BMP infantry fighting vehicle; and the BTR-80, and WZ551 armoured personnel carriers. Major General Janaka Perera, RWP, RSP, VSV, USP, VSP, rcds, psc, CR was a Sri Lankan General and politician. He served as the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and is considered one of the most distinguished generals in Sri Lankan history. After retiring from the army he served as a Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Australia and Ambassador to Indonesia. He was the opposition leader of the North Central Provincial Council until he and his wife were killed on 6 October 2008 by a suicide bomber. The LTTE have been blamed for the bombing by Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

General Shavendra Silva, WWV, RWP, RSP, VSV, USP is a Sri Lanka Army general who is the current Chief of Defence Staff, the head of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces serving from 1 January 2020. He also served as the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army from 19 August 2019 to 31 May 2022. His other important appointments include, Chief of Staff of the army, Adjutant General and Director of Operations of the Army. General Shantha H.S. Kottegoda, WWV, RWP, RSP, VSV, USP is a retired senior Sri Lanka Army general. He was the seventeenth Commander of the Sri Lankan Army from 1 July 2004 – 5 December 2005. He had served as the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Brazil and Thailand. In April 2019, following the Easter Sunday bombings he was appointed as the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Defence.

Major General K. Jagath Alwis, RWP, RSP, USP is a retired Sri Lankan senior army general. He served as the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, former Chief of National Intelligence, Commander Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna and the Colonel Commandant of the Military Intelligence Corps. He had served as Sri Lankan Deputy Ambassador to Israel and Commander of the President's Guard. Currently he is the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security.

General Akurathiya Withanage Jagath Crishanthe de Silva, RWP, USP is a former senior Sri Lanka Army general and military engineer. He had served as the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army from 22 February 2015 to 4 July 2017, as the Chief of Defence Staff from 29 June 2017 to 21 August 2017. Later he was appointed as the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Bangladesh.

General N.U.M. Mahesh W. Senanayke, RWP, RSP, VSV, USP is a retired Sri Lankan Army general who served as the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army from 2017 to 2019. Senanayake had previously been the Commander, Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna, General Officer Commanding, 52 Division and Brigade Commander, Special Forces Brigade. Having started his military career as a military engineer, Senanayake became a special forces officer and is a veteran of all four phases of the Sri Lankan Civil War, he has served in both its Northern and Eastern theaters. Following his retirement, he contested the 2019 Sri Lankan presidential election and came fourth after the three candidates of the three major political parties in the island.

Brigadier Jerome Gautier "Lyle" Balthazar was a senior Sri Lanka Army officer who served as Commander, Security Forces Jaffna and Chief of Staff of the Army.

Major General Jagath Gunawardena, RSP, VSV, USP was a Sri Lankan senior army general. He was the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lankan Army, having served as the Commandant of the Volunteer Force, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters – Wanni and Master General of Ordnance. He served as the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Engineers.

Major General Rasika Fernando, RSP, ndc was a Sri Lankan senior army general. He was the Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lankan Army, having served as the, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters – East. He is the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka National Guard.

Lieutenant General H.L.V.M. Liyanage, widely known as Vikum Liyanage, is a Sri Lanka Army general. He is the current Commander of the Sri Lanka Army serving from 1 June 2022. Prior to become the army commander, he was the 59th Chief of Staff of the Army. On 1 June 2022, Liyanage assumed as the 24th Commander of Sri Lanka Army. Earlier, he served as the Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force as a Major General.

Major General Channa Weerasuriya RWP, RSP, ndu is a Sri Lankan army general. He is the incumbent Chief of Staff of the Army. Earlier, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Army (DCOS). Prior to join DCOS, he served as the Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and before this appointment he had served as Commander, Security Forces - East and General Officer Commanding(GOC), 22 Infantry Division.

Major General D G S Senarath Yapa RWP, RSP, ndu is a retired senior Sri Lanka Army general. He is the incumbent Commandant of the National Defence College, Sri Lanka. Prior to that, he was Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army. Before that he was the 49th Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force. Prior to join SLVF, he served as the Commander of Security Forces (West) and (Jaffna).
