William Ryan is an Australian sailor and an Olympic champion and five time World champion in the men's 470 event with Mathew Belcher.

He became the first Cypriot athlete ever to win an Olympic medal for his country, by winning the silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Men's Laser class behind Tom Slingsby. On Tuesday 19 of September 2017, Kontides took the 1st place in 2017 ILCA World Championship in Split, Croatia, becoming a World Champion. He won the championship again in 2018, as well as a silver in 2013.
Jorge João Zarif is a Brazilian sailor, competing in the Finn class. Son of Brazilian Olympic sailor Jorge Zarif Neto, after finishing 20th at the 2012 Summer Olympics, Zarif was world champion in both junior and senior levels, winning gold at the 2013 Youth Championship in Cyprus and the 2013 Finn Gold Cup in Estonia. His second Olympic appearance in 2016 had Zarif improve handily, with a fourth place.

Australia competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Australia is one of only five countries to have sent athletes to every Summer Olympics of the modern era, alongside Great Britain, France, Greece, and Switzerland.
The Finn competition at the 2020 Summer Olympics was the men's one-person heavyweight dinghy event and was held in Enoshima, Japan, from 27 July to 3 August 2026. 19 sailors from 19 nations competed in 11 races, including one medal-race where points were doubled. The land venue was Enoshima Yacht Harbour and races were held on Sagami Bay.
