Jamal Mohamed Al-Fakhro is a Bahraini legislator, business advisor, and member of the Bahraini National Assembly. [1] He is a Managing Partner of KPMG. [2] [3] [4]
Fakhro was the first Arab to be appointed as a member of the KPMG Global Board [5] [6] and Global council. Fakhro was the chairman of the KPMG Middle East and South Asia (MESA) Board and a member of the KPMG Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMA) Regional Board until October 2014. Having served as managing partner since 1987, [7] he has extensive experience in the field of both Audit and Tax and Advisory services in the region, especially for the government, banking, and financial services sectors. He also advises family businesses in relation to family governance, risk, and sustainable succession planning. [8] [9] Fakhro has a special interest in the matters of corporate governance. [10] [11] He is a founding board member of the Pearl Initiative [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] in the Middle East, an initiative developed in collaboration with the UN Office for Partnerships. The Pearl Initiative aims for transparency and accountability in the private sector.
Fakhro joined Fakhro Establishment for Accounting and Auditing after graduating from Cairo University with a degree in accounting in 1977. [17] At that time, the firm was focused on national work and clients. It had less than 15 employees. Fakhro worked with the firm's partners to become a national representative firm of KPMG in 1982. In 1988 he led the negotiations to merge the operations of Fakhro Establishment and Peat Marwick to establish KPMG Fakhro in Bahrain. [4]
Fakhro has been a member of the Bahraini National Assembly since 1992 and the First Vice Chairman for a number of legislative terms. While in the assembly, he was the chairman of the Committee on Financial and Economic Affairs. Fakhro was also a member of the committee that prepared the National Action Charter of Bahrain. He was later a member of the committee that activated the National Action Charter in 2002. Additionally, he was on the committee involved in the 2011 National Dialogue and the National Committee to follow up on the implementation of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) Report (2011–2012). [1] As a legislator, he has also headed the Bahrain delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union since 2007. [18] [19]
Fakhro was recognized and honored with the second-class Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa medal by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa at the opening ceremony of the eighth session of former Shura Council.
He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). [20]

Women face widespread discrimination within Bahraini society and the country's political institutions. Women's rights have been a cornerstone of the political reforms initiated by King Hamad. The extension of equal political rights has been accompanied by a conscious drive to promote women to positions of authority within government. However, women in Bahrain continue to face gender inequality in many areas of life.
Faisal Hassan Fulad is an international Human Rights Activist and he was a member of Kingdom of Bahrain's upper chamber of parliament, the Consultative Council, since 1996. Fulad was appointed to parliament by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa from 1996 to 2010.
The 1990s uprising in Bahrain also known as the uprising of dignity was an uprising in Bahrain between 1994 and 1999 in which leftists, liberals and Islamists joined forces to demand democratic reforms. The uprising caused approximately forty deaths and ended after Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa became the Emir of Bahrain in 1999 and a referendum on 14–15 February 2001 massively supported the National Action Charter. The uprising resulted in the deaths of around 40 civilians and at least one Bahraini soldier.
Munira Fakhro is a Bahraini academic and was a candidate in Bahrain's 2006 general election for Wa'ad, the country's largest leftist political party.

Ibrahim Sharif al-Sayed is an opposition political activist in Bahrain, currently serving as the General Secretary of the secular socialist National Democratic Action Society (Wa'ad). He succeeded former General Secretary Abdulrahman al-Nuaimi, who fell into a coma in April 2007 and died in 2011. Sharif was formerly associated with the underground Arab nationalist and Marxist Popular Front for the Liberation of Bahrain. Sharif is a Sunni Muslim.
The 2011Bahraini uprising was a series of anti-government protests in Bahrain led by the Shia-dominant and some Sunni minority Bahraini opposition from 2011 until 2014. The protests were inspired by the unrest of the 2011 Arab Spring and protests in Tunisia and Egypt and escalated to daily clashes after the Bahraini government repressed the revolt with the support of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Peninsula Shield Force. The Bahraini protests were a series of demonstrations, amounting to a sustained campaign of non-violent civil disobedience and some violent resistance in the Persian Gulf country of Bahrain. As part of the revolutionary wave of protests in the Middle East and North Africa following the self-immolation of Mohamed Bouazizi in Tunisia, the Bahraini protests were initially aimed at achieving greater political freedom and equality for the 70% Shia population.

The club served as an umbrella group for professional and amateur artists, musicians, and actors in Bahrain. In 1956, the first art exhibition was held in the Bahraini capital, Manama. Expressionism and surrealism, as well as calligraphic art are the popular forms of art in the country. Abstract expressionism has gained popularity in recent decades.
