James Lawrence Kuhn (born November 19, 1961) is an American visual artist and professional clown ("Haw Haw the Clown") from Three Oaks, Michigan. Kuhn is known for his "365 Faces in a Year", in which he painted a different image on his face and head every day for a year. Kuhn has lent his artistic talents to the Canadian indie rock band Young Rival's video "Two Reasons". [1]
The evil clown is a subversion of the traditional comic clown character, in which the playful trope is instead depicted in a more disturbing nature through the use of horror elements and dark humor. The modern archetype of the evil clown was popularized by DC Comics character the Joker starting in 1940 and again by Pennywise in Stephen King's 1986 novel It.
