James Suttles (born September 21, 1980, in Brevard, North Carolina) is an American filmmaker. Suttles grew up in Brevard, North Carolina, attending Brevard High School. At the age of 26, he directed his first feature film Red Dirt Rising and also served as Producer, Cinematographer and Editor. He currently resides in Western North Carolina with his family. [1]

Early life

Suttles grew up on a small farm outside Brevard, North Carolina, residing primarily with his grandparents after his mother died on December 5, 1982. At the age of 13, he was cast as an extra in the Disney film Heavyweights , where his interest in filmmaking was born. "I was only 13 or so but I was enthralled by the collaborative nature and the amount of work it takes to make a movie." [2]

In late 2012, Suttles produced in association with Cine' Foundry and Vidmuze, the world's first 4K Damage Pack designed for the visual effects industry. [17]

It was announced in early 2013 that Suttles would launch a set of courses designed to educate up and coming filmmakers interested in the grip, electric and camera trades. [18]

In 2014 he began pre-production on the feature film Seven Days 'Till Midnight. [19]

Suttles was the cinematographer on a series of projects for QSP/Reader's Digest/Time Inc that utilized talent including the Harlem Globetrotters, Ryan Sheckler, Nick Cannon, Travis Pastrana and Terry Fator.[ citation needed ]

The film dramatizes the birth of NASCAR in the 1930s and 1940s.

Michael Luciano was an American film and television editor with about forty feature film credits and many additional credits for television programs. From 1954 to 1977, Luciano edited 20 of the films directed, and often produced, by Robert Aldrich. Aldrich was a prolific and independent maker of popular films "who depicted corruption and evil unflinchingly, and pushed limits on violence throughout his career." Their early collaboration, the film noir Kiss Me Deadly (1955), was entered into the US National Film Registry in 1999; the unusual editing of the film has been noted by several critics. Luciano's work with Aldrich was recognized by four Academy Award nominations, for Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964), The Flight of the Phoenix (1965), The Dirty Dozen (1967), and The Longest Yard (1974).

Joseph Novoa is a Venezuelan-Uruguayan film director and executive producer. He is married to the director and scriptwriter Elia K. Schneider and fathered the film director Joel Novoa.

Brevard High School is a public high school in Brevard, North Carolina, one of three along with Rosman High School and Davidson River School in the Transylvania County Schools district. The highschool has experienced a slight incline in student population going from 723 in 2012–2013 to around 770 in the 2017–2018 school year.

<i>Honeyland</i> 2019 film

Honeyland is a 2019 Macedonian documentary film that was directed by Tamara Kotevska and Ljubomir Stefanov. It portrays the life of Hatidže Muratova, a loner beekeeper of wild bees who lives in the remote mountain village of Bekirlija and follows her lifestyle before and after neighbors move in nearby. The film was initially planned as a short film documenting the region surrounding the river Bregalnica but its area of focus changed when the directors met Hatidže. Honeyland received its world premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival on 28 January and it has grossed $1,315,037.
