James T. Clemens (born 1943 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American theoretical physicist.
Dr. Clemens did his undergraduate studies at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, graduating in 1965 with a B.S. degree, magna cum laude in physics. After finishing his theoretical doctorate in collective modeling of nuclear structures in 1969, also at the Polytechnic Institute, he was employed by AT&T Bell Laboratories in Allentown, Pa. His research and development activities in the Allentown facility, were primarily focused on the research of materials for silicon based integrated circuits and he became responsible for all Silicon Gate MOS Technologies introduced into manufacture in the Allentown manufacturing facility.[ citation needed ]
In 1983 he transferred to the Central Research Laboratory in Murray Hill, New Jersey and headed all major lithographic research and development activities. His group developed the first excimer laser projection step and repeat printer.[ citation needed ]
In 1990, he was appointed to be the Technical Program Manager for the joint AT&T Bell Labs and NEC Corp. Joint Research and Development Program in Silicon based VLSI circuits. The program ended in 1999. Clemens and his team received the Bell Laboratories Gold Level Quality Award for the program.[ citation needed ]
Clemens was elected a fellow of the IEEE in 1987 "for contributions to the field of MOS fundamental device physics and its application to the development of VLSI integrated circuit technology". [1] He was the 1999 recipient of the J J Ebers Award "for fundamental contributions to MOS VLSI electron devices". [2]

Federico Faggin is an Italian-American physicist, engineer, inventor and entrepreneur. He is best known for designing the first commercial microprocessor, the Intel 4004. He led the 4004 (MCS-4) project and the design group during the first five years of Intel's microprocessor effort. Faggin also created, while working at Fairchild Semiconductor in 1968, the self-aligned MOS (metal-oxide-semiconductor) silicon-gate technology (SGT), which made possible MOS semiconductor memory chips, CCD image sensors, and the microprocessor. After the 4004, he led development of the Intel 8008 and 8080, using his SGT methodology for random logic chip design, which was essential to the creation of early Intel microprocessors. He was co-founder and CEO of Zilog, the first company solely dedicated to microprocessors, and led the development of the Zilog Z80 and Z8 processors. He was later the co-founder and CEO of Cygnet Technologies, and then Synaptics.

Technology computer-aided design is a branch of electronic design automation (EDA) that models semiconductor fabrication and semiconductor device operation. This technique ensures that the gate is naturally and precisely aligned to the edges of the source and drain.
A transistor is a semiconductor device with at least three terminals for connection to an electric circuit. In the common case, the third terminal controls the flow of current between the other two terminals. This can be used for amplification, as in the case of a radio receiver, or for rapid switching, as in the case of digital circuits. The transistor replaced the vacuum-tube triode, also called a (thermionic) valve, which was much larger in size and used significantly more power to operate. The three individuals credited with the invention of the transistor were William Shockley, John Bardeen and Walter Brattain. Chih-Tang "Tom" Sah is a Chinese-American electronics engineer and condensed matter physicist. He is best known for inventing CMOS logic with Frank Wanlass at Fairchild Semiconductor in 1963. CMOS is used in nearly all modern very large-scale integration (VLSI) semiconductor devices.
Asad Ali Abidi is a Pakistani-American electrical engineer. He serves as a tenured professor at University of California, Los Angeles, and is the inaugural holder of the Abdus Salam Chair at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). He is best known for pioneering RF CMOS technology during the late 1980s to early 1990s. As of 2008, the radio transceivers in all wireless networking devices and modern mobile phones are mass-produced as RF CMOS devices.
Sung-Mo "Steve" Kang is an American electrical engineering scientist, professor, writer, inventor, entrepreneur and 15th president of KAIST. Kang was appointed as the second chancellor of the University of California, Merced in 2007. He was the first department head of foreign origin at the electrical and computer engineering department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Dean of the Baskin School of Engineering at UC Santa Cruz. Kang teaches and has written extensively in the field of computer-aided design for electronic circuits and systems; he is recognized and respected worldwide for his outstanding research contributions. Kang has led the development of the world’s first 32-bit microprocessor chips as a technical supervisor at AT&T Bell Laboratories and designed satellite-based private communication networks as a member of technical staff. Kang holds 15 U.S. patents and has won numerous awards for his ground breaking achievements in the field of electrical engineering.

Dawon Kahng was a Korean-American electrical engineer and inventor, known for his work in solid-state electronics. He is best known for inventing the MOSFET, along with his colleague Mohamed Atalla, in 1959. Kahng and Atalla developed both the PMOS and NMOS processes for MOSFET semiconductor device fabrication. The MOSFET is the most widely used type of transistor, and the basic element in most modern electronic equipment.
Mohamed M. Atalla was an Egyptian-American engineer, physicist, cryptographer, inventor and entrepreneur. He was a semiconductor pioneer who made important contributions to modern electronics. He is best known for inventing, along with his colleague Dawon Kahng, the MOSFET in 1959, which along with Atalla's earlier surface passivation processes, had a significant impact on the development of the electronics industry. He is also known as the founder of the data security company Atalla Corporation, founded in 1972. He received the Stuart Ballantine Medal and was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame for his important contributions to semiconductor technology as well as data security.

He is currently the Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Design Enablement and Components Research in the Technology Development Group at Intel.
