Jan Johannes Jacobus Schlebusch (born 5 May 1949) is a former South African rugby union player. [1]

Playing career

Schlebusch finished his schooling in Kroonstad, studied at the University of the Free State and became a teacher at Grey College, in Bloemfontein. He played provincial rugby for the Free State and played in the Currie Cup finals of 1973, 1975, 1977 and 1978. [2]

Schlebusch played three test matches for the Springboks. His first test was the third tests in the series against the 1974 Lions team captained by Willie John McBride, played at the Boet Erasmus Stadium in Port Elizabeth. He then played in the fourth test against the Lions at Ellis Park, that ended in a 13–all draw between the teams. His third and final test match was in 1975 against France at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria. [3]

The South Africa national rugby union team, commonly known as the Springboks, is the country's national team governed by the South African Rugby Union. The Springboks play in green and gold jerseys with white shorts, and their emblem is the Springbok, a native antelope and the national animal of South Africa. Jan Hendrik "Jannie" de Beer is a South African former rugby union player. He played fly-half for the South African national team, the Springboks. In all he represented the Springboks in 13 tests, scoring 181 points. He was principally known as a kicking fly-half.

Morné du Plessis OIS is a former South African rugby union player often described as one of the Springboks' most successful captains. During the five years from 1975 to 1980 that he served as captain, the Springboks won 13 of 15 matches, giving Du Plessis an 86.66% success rate as captain.

Pieter Gysbert Muller is a former international South Africa rugby union player. A centre, he was known for his strength and direct running.

Jan Nathaniel du Plessis is a former South African rugby union player, who played as a prop for Montpellier in the French Top 14 and the Lions in Super Rugby. He played for the Free State Cheetahs in the Currie Cup and the Cheetahs in Super Rugby until 2007, when he joined Durban-based side the Sharks, where he played until 2015. He won 70 caps for South Africa between 2007 and 2015.
