Janakpurdham Railway Station (JNKPE) is a railway station located in Dhanusha District, Madhesh province of Nepal. [1] The station has single platform which is diesel-line operational. [2] It was a narrow gauge station until 2014 since its construction in 1937. After reconstruction it resumed service in 2022. The station is a part of Jaynagar-Bijalpura-Bardibas rail section project. [3]

History

Janakpur was a freight station built in 1937 to move timber to Indian Railways during British India. When all the timber in the area had been cut, the station opened for passengers. [4]

From 2014 to 2019 the Railway station went through conversion of railway tracks into broad gauge line, construction of new station. Services resumed at the station on 03 March 2022. [5]

Services

There are total six services a day on Janakpur train station: three departing services to Jaynagar,two terminus services from Jaynagar and only a departing service to Bhangaha. Following is the station's newly revised time table published by Nepal Railway on 2080/03/28 of Nepalese calendar (2023/07/13 AD).

The Barauni–Gorakhpur, Raxaul and Jainagar lines are a set of three lines connecting Barauni in the Indian state of Bihar with Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. The lines run in an east–west direction between the Ganges and India-Nepal border, covering northern Bihar west of the Kosi river and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Sengottai railway station is an NSG–5 category Indian railway station in Madurai railway division of Southern Railway zone. It serves Sengottai, located in Tenkasi district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It lies on Kollam–Sengottai branch line and Virudunagar–Sengottai line. The Kollam–Shencottah railway line is the first railway line in erstwhile Travancore state and is more than a century old. The Kollam–Sengottai section is part of the Kollam–Chennai metre-gauge rail route commissioned by the British during 1904. The line which was metre gauge has been completely converted into broad gauge and train services started.

The India–Nepal border is an open international boundary running between the republics of India and Nepal. The 1,751 km (1,088.02 mi) long border includes the Himalayan territories as well as Indo-Gangetic Plain of the subcontinent. Department of Railways under Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport is the authority to develop, maintain and plan railways in Nepal. It has its headquarter at Bishalnagar, Kathmandu. Currently it maintains three in-operation railway lines in the country: Raxaul–Sirsiya, Jainagar–Bhangaha and Bathnaha-Budhnagar. It is equivalent to Department of Road for road infrastructure. It has several lines planned.

The Sealdah Main and North section refer to a set of rail lines which connect the city of Kolkata with its northern suburbs and with the North 24 Parganas, Nadia and Murshidabad districts of West Bengal, India along the eastern bank of the Hooghly river. It is a part of the Kolkata Suburban Railway and is under the jurisdiction of the Sealdah railway division of the Eastern Railway zone of Indian Railways.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Jaynagar–Bardibas railway line</span>

The Jaynagar–Janakpur–Bardibas railway line is a cross-border railway line between India and Nepal. The railway links Bijalpura with Jaynagar, crossing the India–Nepal border near Inarwa. An extension to Bardibas is being constructed. The line began as a 2 ft 6 in freight railway in 1937, and subsequently became a passenger railway. It closed in 2014 to allow it to be converted to 5 ft 6 in broad gauge, and reopened in 2022. At that time it was the only operational passenger railway line in Nepal.

Inarwa railway station (NP-INRWA) is a station located on Jaynagar-Kurtha-Bardibas Rail Line project in Nepal. The station falls inside Janaknandini Rural Municipality of Dhanusha District in Madhesh Province. As Inarwa is the first railway station on this route, there has been built a custome check point with the station. The station has four platforms. The preceding station is Jaynagar railway station which is just 3 km far from Inarwa railway station. The following station is Khajuri railway station which is 4 km far from Inarwa.

Indian Railways jointly operates passenger and freight services with its neighboring countries. Railway line construction, maintenance, border check point management is also carried out with partner railway agencies and other government agencies. Some of the railway lines & services are operational while some are non-operational or in proposal or planning stages.
