Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev was King of Nepal from 13 March 1955 until his death in 1972, which was due to heart attack as told in an interview by his personal physician Dr. Mrigendra Raj Pandey. Following the 1960 coup d'état, he established the partyless Panchayat system which governed the country for 28 years until the introduction of multiparty democracy in 1990. During his reign, Nepal experienced a period of industrial, political and economic change which opened it to the rest of the world for the first time after the 104-year-long reign of the Rana rulers, who kept the country under an isolationist policy, came to an end in 1951.
Tribhuvan University is a public university located in Kirtipur, Kathmandu, Nepal. Established in 1959, TU is the oldest and the largest university in Nepal. The college offers 1000 undergraduate and 500 postgraduate programs across a wide range of disciplines. Makwanpur District(Nepali: मकवानपुर जिल्ला;, a part of Bagmati Province, earlier a part of Narayani Zone, is one of the seventy-seven districts of Nepal. The city of Hetauda serves as the district headquarters and also as the provincial headquarters. The district covers an area of 2,426 km2 and had a population of 392,604 in 2001 and 420,477 in 2011.

Hetauda is one of the largest cities in Nepal. At the time of the 2015 Nepal census, it had a population of 153,875 people. The city's population grew to 195,951 in 2021.
Mahendra Highway, also called East-West Highway, runs across the Terai geographical region of Nepal, from Mechinagar in the east to Bhim Datta in the west, cutting across the entire width of the country. It is the longest highway in Nepal and was constructed in cooperation with various countries. The highway is named after King Mahendra Shah.
The Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) (Nepali: कृषि तथा वन विज्ञान विश्वविद्यालय) is a public agricultural university in Nepal. AFU has its central offices at Rampur, Chitwan, Nepal. It was established by the Parliament of Nepal through a bill passed in June 2010 merging two constituent campuses of Tribhuvan University namely Rampur Agriculture Campus of IAAS and Hetauda Campus of IOF in Hetauda, Makwanpur.

The Chisapani Gadhi is a fort in Bhimphedi, Makwanpur that was built around 1744–1745 AD. The fort was controlled by the Sen Dynasty but after the Gorkha Kingdom captured Makwanpur they used the fort for the military, administrative, trade and immigration purposes. King Prithvi Narayan Shah used it to create an economic blockade to the Kathmandu Valley. According to historians, the fort had a court, a check post, and an office for a local governor. During the Anglo-Nepalese War, commander Ranabir Singh Thapa deployed many soldiers inside the fort. But the forces did not directly face the East India Company. Thapa at the Makwanpur Gadhi stopped the Company troops from getting into the fort, and they subsequently went moved to capture the Sim Bhanjyang instead.
Bal Krishna Pokharel (1933–2019) was a Nepalese writer, linguist, historian, and literary critic. He was one of the key person behind the publishing of Nepali Brihat Sabdakosh, a comprehensive Nepali dictionary. Alongside Nepali language, he also wrote in Sanskrit and Magar languages. He wrote multiple fiction, non-fiction and poetry books and was awarded with Madan Puraskar in 1963 for his book Nepali Bhasa Ra Sahitya.
Usha Sherchan is a Nepalese poet, lyricist and writer. She has published three collections of poetry, a collection of short stories and a novel. She has also written lyrics for five music albums. She writes about various social and feminism issues in her poems and stories. She is one of the few writers in Nepal who writes stories about queer people.
