Jute is a long, rough, shiny bast fibre that can be spun into coarse, strong threads. It is produced from flowering plants in the genus Corchorus, of the mallow family Malvaceae. The primary source of the fiber is Corchorus olitorius, but such fiber is considered inferior to that derived from Corchorus capsularis.

It owns 26 garments factories, sweater factory, poly bag industry, label factory, jute mill, chemical formulation plant, tea estates, transport company, Channel 24 and Samakal, a widely circulated national daily newspaper. The newspaper are under Times Media Limited of Ha-Meem Group. It employs 50 thousand people.
Salman Fazlur Rahman commonly known as Salman F Rahman is a Bangladeshi businessman, and a former member of the Jatiya Sangsad representing Dhaka-1 constituency. He is notorious for his financial transgressions involving bank loans. He held the position of private industry and investment adviser to the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, with the status of a cabinet minister.

MASK Associates is a social business registered in Bangladesh involved in the manufacturing and export of raw jute and jute products. The company was established in 1982 by S.B. Kader, a Commercially Important Person (CIP) as declared by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Bangladesh. MASK Associates began its journey by representing REB Willcox of London, UK. The company currently exports raw jute and jute yarn, hessian/sacking cloth/bags, and caddies worldwide.
The jute industry is a historically and culturally important industry in Bangladesh dating back to during the growth of the East India Company in the Indian subcontinent. Despite once being one of the country's biggest industries and major export items, the jute industry has declined since the 1970s. Exports have fallen as other countries grow jute independently, decreasing the demand for jute to be exported, and other products like plastics and hemp find more widespread use.
Wazed Ali Biswas was a Bangladesh Nationalist Party politician and a businessman from the southern part of Bangladesh. He was elected a member of parliament from Satkhira-4 in February 1996.
Ratanpur Group is a Bangladeshi diversified conglomerate based in Chittagong. It mostly known for its flagship company, Ratanpur Steel Re-Rolling Mills Limited (RSRM).
Md Tofazzel Hossain Miah is a Bangladeshi retired civil servant who served as principal secretary of the prime minister. He also served as PS-1 to Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina and senior secretary, Prime Minister's Office, Bangladesh. On 7 August 2024, his appointment has been cancelled.
Uttara Group of Industries is a Bangladeshi diversified conglomerate based in Dhaka founded by Giridhari Lal Modi, a Marwari businessman.
