Janaye Michelle Ingram is a political organizer from Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
Ingram was crowned Miss New Jersey USA 2004 in Jersey City, New Jersey in late 2003. She later represented New Jersey in the Miss USA 2004 pageant held in Los Angeles, California in April 2004 where she went unplaced. [1]
She is originally from Camden, New Jersey, but later moved to Cherry Hill. [2] Ingram's family is well known in Camden. Her father and his siblings are musicians who worked closely with The Sound of Philadelphia. Her paternal aunt is Barbara Ingram.
She graduated from Clark Atlanta University with a B.A. in Psychology where she was initiated into the Alpha Pi chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. [3] Ingram later went on to pursue a Master's of Science in Nonprofit Management at The New School's Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy.
Ingram's career took an unexpected transition when she began to write about various topics online specifically focusing on motherhood as a woman of color. In 2020, Ingram became unexpectedly pregnant with her daughter and carried to full term birthing her first child as a single mother in the middle of a pandemic.
Ingram has worked with organizations across the country to empower underserved populations and has received numerous awards and recognition for her efforts. In 2013, Ingram was promoted from her position as Washington, D.C. bureau chief to be national executive director of National Action Network, founded and led by Rev. Al Sharpton. [4] [5] She is also board member for the Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network (WEEN) and started a scholarship campaign for children and youth in impoverished communities called Ambassadors of Hope. In 2017, she became known as Head of Logistics for the Women's March, which was the largest single-day protest in U.S. history. [6] [7] [8]
A beauty pageant is a competition traditionally focused on judging and ranking the contestants' physical attributes. Pageants have now moved towards including inner beauty, with criteria covering judging of personality, intelligence, talent, character, and charitable involvement, through private interviews with judges and answers to public on-stage questions. Pageant titles are subdivided into Miss, Mrs. or Ms., and Teen – to clearly identify the difference between pageant divisions.
Miss America is an annual competition that is open to women from the United States between the ages of 18 and 28. Originating in 1921 as a "bathing beauty revue", the contest is judged on competition segments with scoring percentages: Private Interview (30%) – a 10-minute press conference-style interview with a panel of judges, On Stage Question (10%) – answering a judge's question onstage, Talent or HER Story (20%) – a performance talent or 90 second speech, Health and Fitness (20%) – demonstrated physical fitness onstage dressed in athletic wear, and Evening Gown (20%) – modeling evening-wear onstage.

The Miss Universe Organization operated both pageants, as well as Miss Teen USA, until 2020, when the organization announced it was licensing operation of the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants to Crystle Stewart, Miss USA for 2008 prior to her suspension in October 2022, thus returning the said pageants to the Miss Universe Organization.
Miss Teen USA is a beauty pageant that has been run since 1983 by the Miss Universe Organization for girls aged 14–19 years old as of January 1st of the competition year. They must be US citizens, and cannot have been married, pregnant, or have children. Unlike its sister pageants Miss Universe, which currently broadcasts on JKN18 and like its sister pageant Miss USA, it is televised on The CW television network starting in 2024, after being streamed online for several years. The Miss Universe Organization previously operated Miss Teen USA, as well as Miss USA, until 2020 when the rights to produce both pageants were licensed to Miss USA 2008 Crystle Stewart prior to her suspension in October 2022, thus returning the said pageants to the Miss Universe Organization. The parent company of all three pageants and the Miss Universe organization remains the same under the licensing agreement: JKN Metaverse Inc., a subsidiary of JKN Global Group.
