Jane Lehr

Jane M. Lehr is an American electrical engineer whose research concerns pulsed power, liquid dielectrics, and ultra-wideband transmission. She is a professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of New Mexico, the former president of the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society, and a coauthor of the book Foundations of Pulsed Power Technology. Education and career

Lehr majored in engineering physics at the Stevens Institute of Technology, where she graduated in 1985. She completed a Ph.D. in electrical engineering at New York University in 1996. [1] [2] [3]

After working in industry, [2] she became a research engineer for the Air Force Research Laboratory at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico from 1997 to 2002, [2] [3] and then a research physicist at the Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque from 2002 to 2013, [2] [3] [4] associated with Sandia's Z Pulsed Power Facility. [5] During this time, she was president of the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society for the 2007–2008 term. [1]

In 2013, she moved to the University of New Mexico as chair of the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering. [4]

Lehr is a coauthor of the book Foundations of Pulsed Power Technology (with Pralhad Ron, Wiley and IEEE Press, 2018).

Recognition

Lehr was named an IEEE Fellow in 2008, "for contributions to high power switches for generating electromagnetic radiation". [6] She is the 2015 recipient of the Richard F. Shea Distinguished Member Award of the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society, given to her "for outstanding contributions to the leadership of the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society and the IEEE NPSS Pulsed Power Science and Technology Technical Committee". Edl Schamiloglu is an American physicist, electrical engineer, pulsed power expert, inventor, and distinguished professor in the department of electrical and computer engineering at the University of New Mexico. He has been known in public media for his expertise in the design and operation of directed-energy weapons. He is also known for his assessment on the possible origins of alleged health damages presumably caused on U.S. embassy personnel in Cuba in 2016 as part of the Havana syndrome incident. He is the associate dean for research and innovation at the UNM School of Engineering, where he has been a faculty since 1988, and where he is also special assistant to the provost for laboratory relations. He is also the founding director of the recently launched UNM Directed Energy Center. Schamiloglu is a book author and co-editor, and has received numerous awards for his academic achievements. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the American Physical Society. Starting on July 1, 2024, Schamiloglu was selected as Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, where he succeeds Steven J. Gitomer who has held that role for over 40 years.

Monica Blank is an American electrical engineer whose research focuses on gyrotrons and their use in generating millimeter-wave radiation for applications including radar and nuclear magnetic resonance. She works for Communications & Power Industries in the San Francisco Bay Area.

David A. Hammer is the J. Carlton Ward, Jr. Professor of Nuclear Energy Engineering, in the Cornell University College of Engineering. In 2004, Hammer received the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Plasma Science and Applications Committee Award, as well as the Distinguished Career Award from Fusion Power Associates in 2018.

Sheshakamal (Shesha) H. Jayaram is an Indian-Canadian power engineer specializing in high voltage systems, in advanced materials for high-voltage insulation, and in the application of high voltage pulses in food processing. She is a professor and university research chair of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Waterloo.
