Jane Wang is a composer, music improvisor, and plays the double bass, toy piano, piano, cello, and various other musical instruments. She is also an installation artist, performance artist, pedestrian movement artist and a former member of the Mobius Artists Group and part of the collaborative record company Hao Records [1] She participated in the ~chromatik d zabu.tmp vs. Vox Novus project and is a member of CDZ. [2] She has also been selected for the 60x60 project. [3] [4] [5] Jane Wang composed and performed music for Hanne Tierney’s How Wang-Fo Was Saved [6] and Ms. Tierney's Man, the Flower of All Flesh [7] The design team, including Jane Wang, were nominated for the 2005 Henry Hewes Design Award. Jane Wang composed and performed solo bass pieces for Hanne Tierney including in 2019, 18 Stanzas Sung to a Tatar Whistle at FiveMyles [8] Performances have been presented at the Wanas Exhibition in Sweden, the International Festival of Puppet Theatre, BAM Next Wave Festival, the Sculpture Center and FiveMyles Gallery in New York City, the Beograd International Theatre Festival in Yugoslavia, and Ms. Tierney's Obie-award-winning Salome (with Sabir Mateen) at five myles and the International Festival of Puppet Theatre. She composed the music for Danny Swain's 3000 Miles to Blue [9] and Renita Martin's Five Bottles In A Six Pack [10] at The Theater Offensive (Boston), Cherry Lane Theatre (NYC) and Jump-Start (San Antonio).

In 2009, Ms. Wang began her collaboration with choreographer Nathan Andary starting with Intervals [11] which they created and performed as a duo at Boston University, Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and including Going Viral [12] at Dance Place, in 2014, The Weight of Square [13] at the Somerville Dancing in the Streets Festival and in 2017, Or... at Judson Church in NYC and a showing at the 2017 International Dance Day Festival in Lebanon.

In 2013, Ms. Wang was nominated for a Drama Desk Award Outstanding Music in a Play [14] - Hanne Tierney's Strange Tales of Liaozhai at HERE Arts Center. In 2018, Ms. Wang curated the one month set of live performances, dadamobile and dadabloge, a blog in homage to Tristan Tzara's DADAGLOBE. [15]

In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, she joined the NowNet Arts Hub, an international virtual contemporary arts performance group conducted by Sarah Weaver. She also continues to participate in the annual Maudslay State Park Outdoor Sculpture Exhibitions with her wire sculptures.

Somerville Theatre

The Somerville Theatre is an independent movie theater and concert venue in the Davis Square neighborhood of Somerville, Massachusetts, United States. Over one hundred years old, the Somerville Theatre started off as a vaudeville house and movie theater. The theater has since transitioned and now operates as a live music venue and first-run movie theater. As a music venue, the theater has played host to many historic concerts, including the first of the two Last Dispatch concerts, two shows by Bruce Springsteen in 2003, and a performance by U2 in 2009. Recent live performances have included Ryan Adams & the Cardinals, Cursive, Norah Jones, The Jonas Brothers, Joan Baez, and the John Butler Trio.

Sister Spit was a lesbian-feminist spoken-word and performance art collective based in San Francisco, signed to Mr. Lady Records. They formed in 1994 and disbanded in 2006. Founding members included Michelle Tea and Sini Anderson, Other members included Jane LeCroy and poet Eileen Myles. The group were noted for their Ramblin' Roadshow, performing at feminist events such as the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival. The Boston Phoenix described it as "the coolest line-up of talented, tattooed, pierced, and purple-pigtailed performance artists the Bay Area has to offer".

60x60 is a collection of 60 electroacoustic or acousmatic works from 60 different composers/artists, each work 60 seconds or less in duration. 60x60 project showcases sixty new works, each sixty seconds or less, by sixty composers in a continuous sixty-minute concert, for a one-hour cross-section of contemporary music. The 60x60 project was conceived and developed by the new music consortium, Vox Novus and its founder, Robert Voisey.

Robert Voisey is a composer and producer of electroacoustic and chamber music. He founded Vox Novus in 2000 to promote the music of contemporary composers and in 2001 created The American Composer Timeline, the first in-depth listing of American composers, spanning from 1690 to the present, to appear on the Internet. A producer of new music and multi-media concerts and events, Voisey is best known for producing the 60x60 project, which he started in 2003 in order to promote contemporary composers and their music. He also founded and directs the Composer's Voice Concert Series as well as the chamber music project Fifteen Minutes of Fame as well as vice president of programs for the Living Music Foundation.

Vox Novus is a New York City-based organization consisting of composers, musicians, and music enthusiasts which presents and supports new music. Vox Novus was founded by Robert Voisey to promote contemporary composers in 2000.

This organization was created for the purposes of expanding the presence of contemporary music in the public's vision, empowering composers and contemporary musicians to create, produce, and promote their music. Vox Novus does this by the production of concerts, exposure on the Internet, and facilitating networking between professionals. Vox Novus promotes and produces contemporary music using repeatable methods and models that composers can take and use on their own. This way contemporary music can reach an ever wider audience thereby continuing the advancement of culture and art.

George Brunner is an American composer and performer born in Philadelphia. He has founded the International Electroacoustic Music Festival at Brooklyn College in 1995 where he has produced renowned composers such as Pauline Oliveros and Noah Creshevsky. He is also the founder of the Brooklyn College Electroacoustic Music Ensemble. Currently, he is the Director of the Music Technology Program for the Conservatory of Music at Brooklyn College and on the faculty of the Brooklyn College Center for Computer Music (BC-CCM).

David Morneau is an American composer. He is most noted for his work with the 60x365 project. in which Morneau blogged a 60-second composition once a day for an entire year. The 365 miniature compositions include ambient tracks, found sound, instrumental performances, and loops and sample-based pieces. One of the inspirations of 60x365 was Boris Willis's Dance-A-Day project where Willis podcast a single dance every day for a year. Another inspiration is 60x60, another miniature project in which Morneau's work was also part of several 60x60 mixes including the Crimson Mix, Order of Magnitude Mix, 2009 International Mix, 2008 International Mix, Evolution Mix 2007 International Mix, 2007 Midwest Mix, and 2006 Midwest Mix.

Yuja Wang Chinese pianist

Yuja Wang is a Chinese classical pianist. She was born in Beijing, began studying piano there at age six, and went on to study at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. By the age of 21, she was already an internationally recognized concert pianist, giving recitals around the world. She has a recording contract with Deutsche Grammophon. Wang tours internationally and has received critical praise for her performances. Yuja Wang lives in New York City.

Eremite Records

Eremite Records is an independent American jazz record label founded in 1995 by Michael Ehlers, with early involvement from music writer Byron Coley. Ehlers was a student of Archie Shepp's at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. After college, he began producing concerts in the Amherst area, and Eremite evolved from those events. The label name came from an alternate title to the Thelonious Monk tune "Reflections": "Portrait of an Eremite". The label's logo, designed by Savage Pencil, is an image of a robed Joe McPhee playing soprano saxophone. Eremite organized a concert series in Western Massachusetts that ran through 2008 and produced roughly 100 concerts, including five Fire in the Valley festivals. From 1998–2018, Eremite managed a touring organization that arranged hundreds of concerts across North America for its artists.

<i>ConSequences</i> (Raphe Malik album) 1999 live album by Raphe Malik

ConSequences is an album by American jazz trumpeter Raphe Malik, which was recorded live at the 2nd Fire in the Valley Festival in 1997 and released on the Eremite label. He leads a quartet with tenor saxophonist Sabir Mateen, bassist William Parker and drummer Denis Charles in one of his last recorded performances.

FiveMyles Gallery

FiveMyles gallery is located in the Crown Heights area of Brooklyn. Founded in 1999, it is a non-profit gallery that exhibits visual and performance art. Its founder/director is Hanne Tierney. FiveMyles was the location for the Crown Heights Film Festival in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021.
