Janeen Uzzell is an American global technology executive and CEO of the National Society of Black Engineers.

Early life and education

Uzzell was born in Newark, New Jersey, and raised in Plainfield, New Jersey, where she attended Mount St. Mary Academy. [1] She has cited her family as an inspiration for her education and career. [2] Her father, Jay Uzzell, was a musician in the band The Corsairs, and her mother is Kate Uzzell. She earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from North Carolina A&T State University [2] and an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University. [3]

Career

Uzzell joined General Electric in 2002, focusing on healthcare technologies. In 2016, Uzzell took over the Women in Technology programs at General Electric. [2] Here she led the implementation of an ad campaign that showcased women engineers, including Mildred Dresselhaus. [2]

In 2021, after working for the Wikimedia Foundation as COO, Uzzell became CEO of the National Society of Black Engineers. [3]

Uzzell serves on the advisory boards for Mercy Ships [4] and as an advisor to the Believers in Business Collegiate Organization of the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. [5]

Honors

The Network Journal named Uzzell one of its "40 Under Forty Achievers" in 2005 and one of "25 Most Influential Black Women in Business" in 2016. [6] She has received the General Electric African-American Forum's Icon Leadership Award. [6]

Located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Metuchen, the school operates financially independent of the Diocese. The Academy was founded in 1908 by the Sisters of Mercy of New Jersey and opened with 77 students. A fire destroyed the main building in 1911, but the school reopened in the following year and has grown steadily. In the 1980s and 1990s it was a boarding school that housed local, out of state and international students.

General Electric Research Laboratory United States historic place

General Electric Research Laboratory was the first industrial research facility in the United States. Established in 1900, the lab was home to the early technological breakthroughs of General Electric and created a research and development environment that set the standard for industrial innovation for years to come. It developed into GE Global Research that now covers an array of technological research, ranging from healthcare to transportation systems, at multiple locations throughout the world. Its campus in Schenectady, New York was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1975.

Steve Adubato Jr. American politician

Steve Adubato, Ph.D. is a television broadcaster, author, motivational speaker, leadership and communication coach, syndicated columnist and university lecturer. In the mid 1980s he was New Jersey's youngest state legislator in the New Jersey General Assembly at age 26. Adubato holds a doctorate from Rutgers University in the field of mass media and communication. He is the author of four books.

Rosalind G. Brewer, also known as "Roz", is an American businesswoman serving as the CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance. With her appointment at Walgreens in March 2021, she is one of only two Black women CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. Brewer is the first African American woman to become CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance, group president and COO of Starbucks, and CEO of Sam's Club. She has also held various leadership positions at Walmart and Kimberly-Clark.

Mary Teresa Barra is an American businesswoman who has been the chair and chief executive officer (CEO) of General Motors since January 15, 2014. She is the first female CEO of a 'Big Three' automaker. In December 2013, GM named her to succeed Daniel Akerson as CEO. Prior to being named CEO, Barra was executive vice president of global product development, purchasing, and supply chain.

Nancy Burr Deloye Fitzroy is an American engineer specializing in heat transfer and fluid dynamics. She was one of the first female helicopter pilots.

Betty Lou Bailey was a General Electric Company mechanical engineer from the United States. She held a patent for an aircraft variable exhaust nozzle. The invention operated so that one would vary both the throat and the exit diameters for the hot gas flows. In honor of her legacy, the Society of Women Engineers named a scholarship after her. To date, that scholarship is still being distributed to eligible female graduate students who pursue a career in engineering.

Margaret Keane was the chief executive officer of Synchrony from February 2014 through April 2021. She transitioned to the role of executive chair of Synchrony’s board of directors. Brian Doubles, formerly Synchrony’s president, became chief executive officer. When Synchrony was spun off from General Electric as an independent bank, it became the most valuable bank in the US run by a woman. Keane is one of only three women, the others being Beth Mooney of KeyCorp and Jane Fraser of Citigroup, who lead an independently traded US bank whose value is over $10 billion.

Vera Lucia Fernandes de Paiva da Silva is a Portuguese engineer and the chief technology officer (CTO) at General Electric (GE) grid solutions part of GE Renewable Energy business. She is one of the few women to hold a chief technology officer position at General Electric. She works on electricity grids technology and renewable energy integration.
