Janelle Lawson (born 9 August 1987) is an Australian netball player. In 2012 she was a member of the Northern Thunder team that won the Netball Superleague title. During the Commonwealth Bank Trophy era she played for Perth Orioles and AIS Canberra Darters. During the ANZ Championship era she played for Queensland Firebirds and West Coast Fever.

Playing career

Commonwealth Bank Trophy

In 2005 Lawson played for her home town team, Perth Orioles, in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy. Between 2006 and 2007 she played for AIS Canberra Darters. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

ANZ Championship

In 2008 and 2009, Lawson played for Queensland Firebirds in the ANZ Championship. [7] [8] [9] [10] During 2010 she played for West Coast Fever. [3] [11]

Netball Superleague

In 2012 Lawson was a member of the Northern Thunder team that won the Netball Superleague title. In the grand final she scored 33 goals as they defeated Surrey Storm by 57–55. [12] [13] [14] She also played for Thunder, now Manchester Thunder during the 2013 season, helping them reach the semi-final stage. [15] [16]

Victoria

Since 2015 Lawson has played in state and local leagues in Victoria, Australia. In 2015 she played for Monash University Storm and in 2016 she played for ACU Sovereigns. Both teams played in the Victorian Netball League. [17] [18] [19] [20] In 2018 she played for Southern Mallee Giants of the Wimmera Netball Association. [21]

Commonwealth Bank Trophy Defunct netball league in Australia

The Commonwealth Bank Trophy, also referred to as the National Netball League, was the top level national Australian netball league between 1997 and 2007. The league was organized by Netball Australia. Its main sponsor was the Commonwealth Bank. Melbourne Phoenix were the competition's most successful team, winning five premierships. Sydney Swifts were the second most successful team, winning four premierships. Between them, Phoenix and Swifts played in every grand final, except in 1999 when Adelaide Thunderbirds won the second of their two premierships. In 2008, the Commonwealth Bank Trophy league was replaced by the ANZ Championship.

Samantha May, also known as Sam May, is an Australian netball player who has played for Hertfordshire Mavericks, Wasps and Loughborough Lightning in the Netball Superleague, featuring in three grand finals in 2015, 2017 and 2018. In Australia, May played for Sydney Swifts and AIS Canberra Darters in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy and for NSW Swifts in the ANZ Championship.

Stacey Marinkovich, previously known as Stacey Rosman, is an Australian netball coach and former player. During the Commonwealth Bank Trophy era she played for Queensland Firebirds and Perth Orioles. In the ANZ Championship era she played for West Coast Fever. She captained both Orioles and Fever. After retiring as a player, Rosman became a coach. In 2014 she was appointed head coach of West Coast Fever. In 2018 she guided Fever to their first ever grand final. She was subsequently named Coach of the Year. In 2020 Rosman, now Marinkovich, was appointed head coach of the Australia national netball team.

Tamsin Greenway England netball international and coach

Tamsin Greenway is a former England netball international. She was a member of the England teams that won bronze medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and at the 2011 and 2015 Netball World Cups. Between 2006 and 2018 she played in eight Netball Superleague grand finals for three different teams – Team Bath, Surrey Storm and Wasps. During this time she won five Netball Superleague titles as a player and/or coach and a sixth as a director of netball. Greenway also works as a netball pundit for Sky Sports. In 2020 she was appointed head coach of the Scotland national netball team.

Clare McMeniman Australia international netball player

Clare McMeniman, also known as Clare Ferguson, is a former Australia netball international. She captained Australia when they won the 2016 Netball Quad Series and the 2016 Constellation Cup. McMeniman was also a member of the Queensland Firebirds teams that won the 2011, 2015 and 2016 ANZ Championships.

Jasmine Keene is an Australian netball player, primarily in the position of goal shooter. She is the daughter of Australian rules football player Laurie Keene, who played for the West Coast Eagles.

Carla Borrego Jamaica netball international

Carla Borrego, also known as Carla Williams and Carla Williams-Borrego, is a former Jamaica netball international. She was a member of the Jamaica team that won the bronze medal at the 2003 World Netball Championships. She subsequently switched to women's basketball, playing for Broward Seahawks and Miami Hurricanes. In 2009, after returning to netball, Borrego began playing for Adelaide Thunderbirds in the ANZ Championship. She was a prominent member of the Thunderbirds teams that won the 2010 and 2013 titles. She has also played for Sirens in the Netball Superleague and for Garville in the Netball South Australia Premier League.

Simone McKinnis is a former Australia netball international and the current head coach of Melbourne Vixens in Suncorp Super Netball. As a player she was a member of the Australia teams that won gold medals at the 1991 and 1995 World Netball Championships, the 1993 World Games and the 1998 Commonwealth Games. She also captained the Melbourne Phoenix team that won the 1997 Commonwealth Bank Trophy. She was head coach when Vixens won the 2014 ANZ Championship and the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball titles. In 1992, McKinnis was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia and in 2010 was inducted into the Netball Australia Hall of Fame.

Team Bath is an English netball team based at the University of Bath. Their senior team plays in the Netball Superleague. In 2005–06 they were both founder members and the inaugural champions of the league. They were Superleague champions again in 2006–07, 2008–09, 2009–10 and 2013. The netball team is one of several sports teams based at the University of Bath that use the Team Bath brand name. Others include an association football team and a field hockey team.

Manchester Thunder Netball Superleague team

Manchester Thunder are an English netball team based in Manchester. Their senior team plays in the Netball Superleague. In 2005–06, Thunder were founder members of the league. They were Superleague champions in 2012, 2014 and 2019. Between 2001 and 2012 they played as Northern Thunder and were originally based in Bury, Greater Manchester.

Stacey Francis is an England netball international. She was a member of the England teams that won bronze medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and at the 2011 and 2015 Netball World Cups. At club level she has played for both Team Bath and Yorkshire Jets in the Netball Superleague, for Canterbury Tactix in the ANZ Championship and for West Coast Fever in Suncorp Super Netball. Between 2005–06 and 2013 she was a prominent member of the Team Bath squad as they won five Superleague titles. She played in the 2010 and 2013 grand finals and in both 2011 and 2013 she was named the Netball Superleague Player of the Season. In 2017 she was inducted into the University of Bath/Team Bath Hall of Fame for Sport.

Kathryn Ainsworth, also known as Katt Ainsworth, is an Australian netball player who played for Surrey Storm in the Netball Superleague. She was a member of the Storm teams that won Superleague titles in 2015 and 2016.

Glasgow Wildcats is a Scottish netball team based in Glasgow. Between 2008 and 2011 their senior team played in the Netball Superleague. They were the first team from Scotland to join the league. The Glasgow Netball Association continue to use the Glasgow Wildcats name for their under-15 and under-17 teams.

The 2012 FIAT Netball Superleague season saw Northern Thunder finish as champions for the first time. In the grand final they defeated Surrey Storm. 2012 saw the introduction of a new format, featuring three distinct phases, including a Showdown Weekend.

The 2014 Zeo Netball Superleague season saw Manchester Thunder finish as champions for the second time. Surrey Storm finished top of the table following the regular season and remained unbeaten throughout the season until they were defeated in the grand final by Thunder. This season the league was sponsored by Zeo, a soft drinks firm.

The 2016 Vitality Netball Superleague season saw Surrey Storm retain the title after defeating Manchester Thunder in the grand final. Thunder finished top of the table following the regular season. The league was sponsored by VitalityHealth.

The 2017 Vitality Netball Superleague season saw a new franchise, Wasps, win the title in their inaugural season. In the grand final they defeated regular season winners, Loughborough Lightning.

Layla Guscoth is an England netball international. She was a member of the England squad that won a bronze medal at the 2019 Netball World Cup. At club level, Guscoth has played for Loughborough Lightning, Hertfordshire Mavericks and Team Bath in the Netball Superleague and for Adelaide Thunderbirds in Suncorp Super Netball. She was a member of the Mavericks team that won the 2011 Netball Superleague. She has captained both Mavericks and Thunderbirds. In 2016 she qualified as a doctor.

The 2018 Team Bath netball season saw Team Bath finish fourth in the 2018 Netball Superleague regular season. They subsequently lost to Wasps in a play-off semi-final. During their pre-season, Team Bath also played in the inaugural Fast5 Netball All-Stars Championship and finished as runners up after losing the final to Loughborough Lightning.

Roselee Jencke Australian netball player and coach

Roselee Jencke is a former Australia netball international and netball coach. As a player, Jencke was a member of the Australia teams that won the gold medal at the 1991 World Netball Championships and the silver medals at the 1985 World Games and the 1987 World Netball Championships. In 1992 she was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia. Between 2009 and 2020, Jencke served as head coach of Queensland Firebirds. Between 2011 and 2016 she guided Firebirds to five ANZ Championship grand finals, winning three premierships in 2011, 2015 and 2016.
