Janet Mikhail (Arabic :جانيتميخائيل;born 1945) or Janet Michael,sometimes known as Janet Khouri (جانيتخوري) is a former mayor of Ramallah in the West Bank,Palestine. She was the first woman to hold this post. She was head teacher of the girls' school in Ramallah for 20 years,now retired. She is a Palestinian Christian (Catholic). [1]
She was chosen as mayor on 29 December 2005 by the newly elected 15-member city council. She ran as a political independent (although some sources have associated her with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine movement),and was the head of the "Ramallah for All" independent list,which won six seats in local elections held earlier in December.
The Fatah-associated "Homeland (Watan)" faction,headed by Palestinian Legislative Council member Ghazi Hanania,also won six seats,while the Hamas-affiliated faction of "Change and Reform" headed by Khaldoun Khader won three seats. The new council voted 9–6 to elect Mikhail as mayor,after the three "Change and Reform" council members allied themselves with her "Ramallah for All" faction.[ citation needed ]

Khalida Jarrar is a Palestinian politician. She is a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC). She was elected to the PLC in January 2006 as one of the PFLP's three deputies and has continued to serve as an elected representative ever since. He currently serves as the first deputy prime minister and is a member (independent) of the PLO Executive Committee. From 18 March 2007 to 17 June 2007,he was Foreign Minister of the Palestinian National Authority. On 6 June 2013,Ziad Abu-Amr was appointed as Deputy Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority by President Mahmoud Abbas.

Legislative elections were held in the Palestinian territories on 25 January 2006 in order to elect the second Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC),the legislature of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA). The result was a victory for Hamas,contesting under the list name of Change and Reform,which received 44.45% of the vote and won 74 of the 132 seats,whilst the ruling Fatah received 41.43% of the vote and won 45 seats.

The PLC has a quorum requirement of two-thirds,and since 2006 Hamas and Hamas-affiliated members have held 74 of the 132 seats in the PLC. The PLC's activities were suspended in 2007 and remained so as of November 2023,while PLC committees continue working at a low rate and parliamentary panel discussions are still occurring.

The PNC is intended to serve as the parliament that represents all Palestinians inside and outside the Palestinian territories,and all sectors of the worldwide Palestinian community,including political parties,popular organizations,resistance movements,and independent figures from all sectors of life.
The Palestinian cabinet,headed by Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah,announced on 23 June 2016 a decision to hold municipal elections on 8 October 2016. The elections were suspended by the Palestinian Court in early September and in January 2017 they were set to 13 May 2017. They were expected to be the first elections in all of the Palestinian territories since Hamas' takeover of the Gaza Strip in 2007,as Hamas agreed to participate in the local elections and allow them to be held in the Gaza Strip but disagreements between Hamas and Fatah led to Hamas boycotting stating it will participate only after "ending disagreements,achieving reconciliation,and uniting Palestinian institutions,including at the political,judicial,and security levels". The elections were later slated to be held in West Bank in May 2017 and were postponed in Gaza Strip.
