Janet Parra Mercado is a Puerto Rican politician and lawyer serving as the secretary of Justice of Puerto Rico since 2025.
Parra Mercado was a prosecutor and head of the organized crime division of the Puerto Rico Department of Justice. As of 2024,she was a member of the New Progressive Party platform committee and a private practice lawyer. [1]
On January 2,2025,she was appointed secretary of justice of Puerto Rico by governor Jenniffer González-Colón. [2] [3]
The resident commissioner of Puerto Rico is a non-voting member of the United States House of Representatives elected by the voters of the U.S. Commonwealth of Puerto Rico every four years,the only member of the House of Representatives who serves a four-year term.
