Janice Bell Underwood is an American educator who was the first director of United States Office of Personnel Management's Office of Diversity,Equity,Inclusion,and Accessibility and the governmentwide chief diversity officer from 2022 to 2024. She is the vice president of diversity at Disney Experiences. Underwood was previously the first chief diversity officer of the Virginia state government from 2019 to 2022.
Underwood was born to Michael and Virginia Bell. [1] She earned a B.A. (1998) in psychology and a M.A. in special education (2002) from Hampton University. [2] [1] She earned a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from the Darden College of Education at Old Dominion University (ODU). [2] [1] Her 2015 dissertation was titled,A Phenomenological Case Study Concerning Science Teacher Educators' Beliefs and Teaching Practices About Culturally Relevant Pedagogy and Preparing K-12 Science Teachers to Engage African American Students in K-12 Science. Underwood was a biology special education teacher at Hampton High School from 2000 to 2015. [3] [1] In 2011,she joined her alma mater ODU as a research assistant and adjunct professor of science methodologies in the department of STEM and professional studies. [1] [3] At ODU,she served as an executive program director from 20015 to 2018 and director of diversity initiatives from 2018 to 2019. [3] On September 16,2019,Underwood became the first director of diversity,equity,and inclusion for the Virginia state government,having been appointed by named by governor Ralph Northam. [2] [4] In May 2022,Underwood was appointed as the first director of the United States Office of Personnel Management's Office of Diversity,Equity,Inclusion,and Accessibility and the governmentwide chief diversity officer. A teaching method is a set of principles and methods used by teachers to enable student learning. These strategies are determined partly by the subject matter to be taught,partly by the relative expertise of the learners,and partly by constraints caused by the learning environment. For a particular teaching method to be appropriate and efficient it has to take into account the learner,the nature of the subject matter,and the type of learning it is supposed to bring about.
Old Dominion University (ODU) is a public research university in Norfolk,Virginia. Established in 1930 as the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary,an extension school of the College of William &Mary for working professionals,members of the military,and non-traditional students in Norfolk-Virginia Beach area of the Hampton Roads region. The university has since expanded into a residential college for traditional students and is one of the largest universities in Virginia with an enrollment of 23,494 students for the 2023 academic year. The university also enrolls over 600 international students from 99 countries. Its main campus covers 250 acres (1.0 km2) straddling the city neighborhoods of Larchmont,Highland Park,and Lambert's Point,approximately five miles (8.0 km) north of Downtown Norfolk along the Elizabeth River.
Pedagogy,most commonly understood as the approach to teaching,is the theory and practice of learning,and how this process influences,and is influenced by,the social,political,and psychological development of learners. Pedagogy,taken as an academic discipline,is the study of how knowledge and skills are imparted in an educational context,and it considers the interactions that take place during learning. Macon and Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences Center at Old Dominion University,commonly known as Virginia Health Sciences Center and formally Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS),is a public medical school in Norfolk,Virginia operated by Old Dominion University. Founded by grassroots efforts in the Southeastern part of Virginia known as Hampton Roads,EVMS has historically not been affiliated with an undergraduate institution and therefore coordinates training through multiple medical centers in the Hampton Roads region. Effective on July 1,2024,the nearby Old Dominion University merged with EVMS to create a comprehensive university with EVMS being the medical school component of the larger university.
Inclusion in education refers to including all students to equal access to equal opportunities of education and learning,and is distinct from educational equality or educational equity. It arose in the context of special education with an individualized education program or 504 plan,and is built on the notion that it is more effective for students with special needs to have the said mixed experience for them to be more successful in social interactions leading to further success in life. The philosophy behind the implementation of the inclusion model does not prioritize,but still provides for the utilization of special classrooms and special schools for the education of students with disabilities. Inclusive education models are brought into force by educational administrators with the intention of moving away from seclusion models of special education to the fullest extent practical,the idea being that it is to the social benefit of general education students and special education students alike,with the more able students serving as peer models and those less able serving as motivation for general education students to learn empathy.

Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER),located in Madison,Wisconsin,United States,is an education research center founded in 1964 as a branch of the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. WCER currently has extramural funding of approximately $40 million,and is home to over 500 faculty,staff,graduate and undergraduate students who are engaged in more than 100 research projects that investigate a variety of topics in education.
Kenneth J. Fasching-Varner formerly the Shirley B. Barton Endowed Associate Professor of Education at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge,Louisiana is now Professor of Education at University of Nevada,Las Vegas whose ideas contribute to education and social reform. Fasching-Varner has proposed a non-developmental theory of white racial identity offering a direct counterpoint to the developmental theories of racial identity. He,along with colleagues Christine Clark and Mark Brimhall-Vargas,have written about the occupation of the academy in higher education to discuss the treatment of diversity in higher education during the Obama era. The edited volume has received praise,being awarded the Duke University Office of Inclusion and Equity's December 2012 book of the month. The volume has also received critique from the neo-conservative Manhattan group,citing that the book does not account for fiscal needs when advocating for diversity.

He also serves as executive director of the Todd Anthony Bell National Resource Center on the African American Male and is the inaugural College of Education and Human Ecology Distinguished Professor of Urban Education. Moore co-founded the International Colloquium on Black Males in Education. From 2015 to 2017,Moore served as the rotating program director for Broadening Participation in Engineering in the Engineering directorate at the National Science Foundation in Arlington,Virginia. In 2018 the Dr. James L. Moore III Scholars Program,established by Missy and Bob Weiler,was created to support undergraduate students transferring from Columbus State Community College to Ohio State University.
Lisa D. White is an American geologist and director of Education and Outreach at the University of California Museum of Paleontology. White is a former professor of geosciences and associate dean of the College of Science and Engineering at San Francisco State University. She was elected to the California Academy of Sciences in 2000 and as a Fellow of the Geological Society of America in 2009. White was awarded her PhD in 1989 from the University of California,Santa Cruz. In 2022 the National Center for Science Education (NCSE) presented White with the 2022 "Friend of Darwin" award.

Glenn Allen Youngkin is an American businessman and politician serving since 2022 as the 74th governor of Virginia. A member of the Republican Party,he spent 25 years at the private-equity firm The Carlyle Group,where he became co-CEO in 2018. He resigned from the position in 2020 to run for governor.
Sherita Hill Golden is an American physician who is the Hugh P. McCormick Family Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Johns Hopkins University. Her research considers biological and systems influences on diabetes and its outcomes. From 2019-2024,she served as the vice president and chief diversity officer. She was elected Fellow of National Academy of Medicine in 2021.
Diversity,equity,and inclusion (DEI) are organizational frameworks which seek to promote the fair treatment and full participation of all people,particularly groups who have historically been underrepresented or subject to discrimination on the basis of identity or disability. These three notions together represent "three closely linked values" which organizations seek to institutionalize through DEI frameworks. Some experts say diversity and inclusion should be decoupled in some cases. Some frameworks,primarily in Britain,substitute the notion of "equity" with equality:equality,diversity,inclusion (EDI). Other variations include diversity,equity,inclusion and belonging (DEIB),inclusion and diversity (I&D),justice,equity,diversity and inclusion,or diversity,equity,inclusion and accessibility.
Valentina Kuryliw is a historian and educator specializing in the Ukrainian Holodomor genocide of 1932–1933. Now retired,she served as the Department Head of History and Social Sciences for the Toronto District School Board with over 35 years of teaching experience. She is a methodologist,worked with the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto training young history,law and sociology teachers and evaluating their achievements. She has also travelled extensively throughout Ukraine teaching teachers about human rights,critical thinking skills and the Holodomor in many of its regions since 1993;"Every year Valentina Kuryliw comes to Ukraine –a Canadian of Ukrainian descent,a methodological teacher,a history specialist from Toronto. She conducts courses in the summer in Lviv,Odesa,Ternopil,Lutsk,Khmelnytsky,Donetsk,Kharkiv and thus shows Ukrainian history teachers that teaching can be different. Ms. Valentina has made an invaluable contribution to the development of Ukrainian methodological thought." She taught the history of Ukraine at the Tsiopa Palijiw Ukrainian School Toronto where she was assistant director. From 2009,she is the chair of the National Holodomor Education Committee. of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress;from 2013,the Director of Education of the Holodomor Research and Education Consortium at the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies,University of Alberta;from 2009,she is a member of the Board of the Ukrainian Canadian Research and Documentation Centre (Toronto). She is a permanent member of the Ontario History and Social Studies Teacher's Association (OHASSTA).

He is a professor of Education in the School of Education and Information Studies and the Founder and executive director of the Black Male Institute at the University of California,Los Angeles. He also serves as the Pritzker Family Endowed Chair in Education to Strengthen Children &Families,Faculty Director of UCLA Center for the Transformation of Schools,as well as Director of UCLA Pritzker Center for Strengthening Children &Families.
