Janne Pekka Haavisto (born 28 November 1964) is a Finnish drummer, recording engineer and record producer. He has been a professional musician since the age of 16. [1]
Haavisto was born in Espoo. He attended the Sibelius High School in Helsinki and played drums in a band called Bablers together with e.g. Sam Yaffa and Arto Tamminen. [1] The band made a record called Whats all about in 1980.
At the age of 16 Haavisto was given, with the aid of his older brother Olli Haavisto, a job as a drummer for J. Karjalainen & Mustat Lasit (‘J. Karjalainen & The Dark Glasses’). He played with the band for 12 years. In the early stages he went to high school at the same time and also passed the matriculation exams. The played as many as 300 gigs a year at that time. [1]
While recording and touring with the Mustat Lasit, Haavisto produced a radio program for the Finnish radio station Radio City together with Mitja Tuurala. The program concentrated on older Americana, e.g. surf music, which in 1988 led to the formation of a band called Laika & The Cosmonauts, which played surf-oriented music. [1]
Other bands in Haavisto's career have been e.g. TTV, The JP's and Janne Haavisto & The Farangs. In the 2010s he has also played in the bands of Irina Björklund and Erin. [1]
As well as working as a musician, Haavisto has had a long career as a recording engineer and a record producer. Haavisto says that at one time he played in the bands of J. Karjalainen and Mikko Kuustonen in addition to Laika & The Cosmonauts, and at the same time he would produce seven records per year. [1]
After he left the Mustat Lasit, Haavisto nevertheless continued his cooperation with J. Karjalainen and e.g. produced three albums for him. For one of them, i.e. Tähtilampun alla (‘Underneath the star lamp’), he was awarded an Emma prize for the producer of the year. [2]
Haavisto's father Jukka Haavisto was a well-known musician in Finland, and so is his brother Olli Haavisto, who is 10 years older than him. Their sister Susanna Haavisto is known both as a singer and an actress. [1]
The Rasmus is a Finnish rock band that formed in 1994 in Helsinki while the band members were in upper comprehensive school. The original band members were Lauri Ylönen, Eero Heinonen (bass), Pauli Rantasalmi (guitar) and Jarno Lahti (drums). Jarno Lahti left the year after and was replaced by Janne Heiskanen in 1995. Heiskanen quit the band in 1999 and was soon replaced by Aki Hakala. Pauli Rantasalmi left the band and was replaced by guitarist Emilia "Emppu" Suhonen in 2022. The band represented Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 with the song "Jezebel".
Catamenia is a Finnish black metal band founded in 1995 by Riku Hopeakoski and Mika Tönning in Oulu. They have been signed to Massacre Records since their first full-length release Halls of Frozen North in 1998. As of 2010, they have released nine albums, one EP, and one DVD. They are known for frequent usage of wolves in their album art, but the band is named after a kind of bird. Catamenia also means "menstruation", which the band did not know until a fan pointed it out to them after the release of their debut album.

Laika & the Cosmonauts were a Finnish rock band. They had the same lineup from the time they formed in 1987 until they stopped recording in 2008. The band was named after Laika, a Soviet space dog that died on board Sputnik 2 in 1957. Their sound was usually described as surf rock, but a Boston Globe review noted that the band's sound is "far beyond the limitations of any specific genre." The band relied heavily on the Finnish rautalanka electric guitar tradition. They toured the United States and Europe several times. Al Jourgensen of Ministry called them "the best f**king band in the world". In an email to the band's mailing list on 23 April 2008, Laika & the Cosmonauts announced they would be drawing their twenty-year career to a close with an American tour through the summer of 2008. The tour ended with shows at the Continental Club in Austin, Texas that fall. A compilation album, Cosmopolis, was released at the start of the tour.
Approach is the Finnish rock band Von Hertzen Brothers's second full-length album. The album was released on 17 May 2006 in Finland and went gold. The first single released from the album was "Let Thy Will Be Done" and the second was "Kiss a Wish".
Jukka Tapio "J." Karjalainen is a Finnish singer-songwriter. His first album came out in 1981 and he has been called the "Bruce Springsteen of Finland." He states that his music is a mix of "Blues, Rock´n´roll, Folk, Country, Soul, Funky, New Orleans stuff." He also listened to old-time musicians like Tommy Jarrell and Clarence Ashley while learning the 5-string banjo. Jukka is married to Kati Bergman, and they have a son, Väinö Karjalainen, who is also a musician and music producer.
Mikko Lankinen is a Finnish musician. He plays lead guitar for the Finnish surf rock group Laika & the Cosmonauts and instrumental rock group The Potatoes. The lead singer for the Finnish progressive metal group Scenery Channel is also called Mikko Lankinen but they are not the same person.
The Latebirds are a rock band from Helsinki, Finland. The band was formed in 2000 by drummer Janne Haavisto, bass player Mikko Mäkelä, singer/songwriter Markus Nordenstreng and guitarist Miikka Paatelainen. Guitarist Jussi Jaakonaho replaced Miikka Paatelainen in 2004. Organ player Matti Pitsinki from Finnish instrumental rock group Laika & The Cosmonauts was added to the line-up in 2005.

Battle Beast is a Finnish heavy/power metal band established in Helsinki in 2008 by Anton Kabanen, Juuso Soinio and Pyry Vikki. The initial line-up consisted of guitarists Soinio and Kabanen, and drummer Vikki, who were high school friends. The rest of the original lineup, bassist Eero Sipilä, keyboardist Janne Björkroth and lead singer Nitte Valo, joined the band after auditions.

He is one of the most respected pedal steel guitarists in Finland, and he has worked as a session musician for numerous Finnish artists. He has played on ca. 1 850 songs on ca. 600 albums. He has also acted as producer on ca. 50 albums. In addition to this, he has played ca. 5 000 gigs.
Juhani "Jukka" Haavisto was a Finnish musician with the honorary title of music councilor. He also worked as a businessman in advertising business from 1959 to the 1990s, when he retired. However, he is perhaps best known for his work as a songwriter and for having played the vibraphone and the accordion in numerous bands.
