Janni Bach (born 28 April 1966) is a Danish-born, former Australian female handball player.

Early life

She played handball from the age of five, made her Denmark junior women's national handball team debut at age 17, and was chosen for the Denmark women's national handball team in 1991. [1]

Personal life

In 1997, her husband Peter—also a handball player—was offered a job in Australia, and the family relocated. Within weeks of arriving, both were recruited for the Australia women's national handball team and the Australia men's national handball team, respectively. [1] Bach's son, Rasmus, is a professional basketball player. [2]

Career

Bach was part of the team at the 2000 Summer Olympics, [3] [4] playing five matches. [5] On club level she played for Roskilde Håndbold in Denmark, and University of Sydney in Australia.

Else-Marthe Sørlie Lybekk is a retired Norwegian team handball player, world champion from 1999, gold medalist from the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, and bronze medalist from the 2000 Olympics. She is also a triple European champion with the Norwegian national team, which she previously captained prior to the reign of fellow Gjøvik handballer Gro Hammerseng. She is widely regarded as one of the best players Danish handball has ever seen. With 846 goals she has scored the most goals in the Danish Women's national team, ever and she has played the 4th most matches on the national team.

Rina Bjarnason is a Danish born Australian female handball player. She was a member of the Australia women's national handball team. She was part of the team at the 2000 Summer Olympics, playing five matches. On club level she played for Monash University.

Rasmus Bach is a Danish-Australian former professional basketball player. Born in Denmark, Bach grew up in Australia and then attended high school in the United States. Between 2013 and 2018, he played college basketball for the Fort Lewis Skyhawks. He began his professional career in Denmark before joining the New Zealand Breakers of the Australian NBL in 2020. After a season with the Brisbane Bullets, he retired in 2023. Bach has represented the Denmark national team and holds an Australian passport.
