Jarius Ymzon Bondoc is a Filipino investigative journalist. He is a long-time columnist for the Philippine Star's broadsheet and tabloid.

Biography

Bondoc was a martial law victim [1] [2] and a UP Sigma Kappa Pi alumnus. [3] [4]

His op-ed articles, according to a Sandiganbayan decision, give a fair commentary on an issue that is imbued with the public interest. [5]

He hosts a radio program on DWIZ 882, apart from writing two columns for the Philippine Star and the Pilipino Star Ngayon. [6] [7]

Following Bondoc's decades of fearless comments and exposés, death threats were reportedly sent to him and his family. [8] [9] [10]

Sabina Shoal, also known as Escoda Shoal ; Mandarin Chinese: 仙賓礁/仙宾礁; pinyin: Xiānbīn Jiāo; Vietnamese: Bãi Sa Bin, is an atoll in the NE of Dangerous Ground in the Spratly Islands. The Philippines puts it under the jurisdiction of Brgy. Pag-asa, Kalayaan, Palawan. It is also claimed by the People's Republic of China, and the Republic of China (Taiwan) and Vietnam.

René B. Azurin is an author, political columnist, former business executive, and Professor of Management. He is most notable as a former member of the Philippines’ Constitutional Consultative Commission (ConCom) of 2005 which had been tasked by Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo with studying and proposing changes to the 1987 Philippine Constitution. He was elected co-Chairman of that body's Committee on Form of Government but dissented from the ConCom majority's eventual decision to propose the replacement of the Philippines’ American-style presidential system with a British-style parliamentary system. He wrote the dissenting Minority Report and participated actively in the public opposition to the proposed change.

The Siege at Hotel Delfino in Tuguegarao, Cagayan in the Philippines, took place on March 4, 1990. A private army estimated at 300 men seized the hotel under the command of suspended Cagayan governor Rodolfo "Agi" Aguinaldo, a fierce critic of the administration of President Corazon Aquino and the Communist insurgency in the Philippines. The incident was an offshoot of the 1989 Philippine coup d'état attempt that Aguinaldo publicly supported, which prompted his suspension and arrest. The standoff ended violently after several hours, leaving 14 people dead, including a general who tried to arrest him.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Military career of Ferdinand Marcos</span>

The military career of former Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos during World War II has been the subject of debate and controversy, both in the Philippines and in international military circles. Marcos, who had received ROTC training in the University of the Philippines, was activated for service in the US Armed Forces in the Philippines after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served as a 3rd lieutenant during the mobilization in the summer and fall of 1941, continuing until April 1942, after which he was taken prisoner. According to Marcos' account, he was released from prison by the Japanese on August 4, 1942, and US military records show that he rejoined USAFIP forces in December 1944. Marcos' military service then formally ended with his discharge as a major in the 14th Infantry, US Armed Forces in the Philippines Northern Luzon, in May 1945.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">First term of the presidency of Ferdinand Marcos</span>

Ferdinand Marcos was inaugurated to his first term as the 10th president of the Philippines on December 30, 1965. His inauguration marked the beginning of his two-decade long stay in power, even though the 1935 Philippine Constitution had set a limit of only two four-year terms of office. Marcos had won the Philippine presidential election of 1965 against the incumbent president, Diosdado Macapagal.

Renato "Rene" Mendoza Alviar was a Filipino journalist. He covered Philippine politics and business from the mid-1970s until the early decades of the 21st century.
