Since the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993, the prize has continued in both successor countries as the Sportsperson of the Year of the Czech Republic and the Sportsperson of the Year of Slovakia.

Tomáš Kratochvíl is a retired Czech race walker who represented the club USK Praha. In 1995 he participated at the 1995 World Championships (20 km), but was disqualified. He also finished 34th at the 1995 IAAF World Race Walking Cup. In 1996 he finished 48th at the 1996 Olympic Games (20 km). He also competed at the 1997 IAAF World Race Walking Cup. He became Czech champion in 1997 (20 km).
The Prague Half Marathon is an annual half marathon road running event which takes place in Spring on the city streets of Prague, Czech Republic, first held in 1999. It is managed by the same organisation that holds the Prague Marathon in May. The race has a loop course, starting and ending in Jan Palach Square near the Rudolfinum, and largely follows the Vltava river. The competition has enjoyed an increasing level of participation, with around 6500 participants in 2009 and almost 8500 runners taking part in the 2010 event.

The 1986–87 FIS Cross-Country World Cup was the 6th official World Cup season in cross-country skiing for men and women. The World Cup started in Ramsau, Austria, on 10 December 1986 and finished in Oslo, Norway, on 15 March 1987. Torgny Mogren of Sweden won the overall men's cup and Marjo Matikainen of Finland won the women's.

Bo Andreas Gustafsson is a Swedish race walker. He has represented his country at the World Championship in Athletics on four occasions. He qualified for 2 Olympics by making the IAAF standard B in 2008 and IAAF standard A in 2012, but was not selected on the Swedish Olympic Team. His highest accomplishment is a 20th-place finish at the 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin, Germany. He was also 12th at the 2010 European Athletics Championships in Barcelona and 21st at the 2011 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea.
Anežka Drahotová is a Czech athletics competitor in racewalking, middle-distance running, and steeplechase, as well an international-level cyclist. She is the Czech record holder for the 20 kilometres walk and the 10 km track walk.
Evan Dunfee is a Canadian race walker and Olympian. An Olympic and World medallist, Dunfee first set the Canadian record in the 50 kilometres race walk at the 2016 Summer Olympics, where he placed fourth. He went on to win bronze medals at the 2019 World Athletics Championships and the 2020 Summer Olympics, both of those the last time the 50 km was to be featured as an event.
Teodorico Caporaso is a male Italian racewalker who won four international medals at senior level at the race walk competitions. He competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in 50 km walk.
Jaroslav Brabec was a Czech track and field athlete who competed in the shot put. He twice represented Czechoslovakia at the Summer Olympics. He was a three-time participant at the European Athletics Championships and a three-time medallist at the European Athletics Indoor Championships, being the champion at the 1973 edition.
The 2016 IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships was the 27th edition of the global team racewalking competition organised by the International Association of Athletics Federations. It was held in Rome, Italy from 7 to 8 May 2016. It was the first edition of the tournament under its new name, having previously been known as the IAAF World Race Walking Cup since 1989.
