Jaroslav Makovec (born 11 January 1960) is a retired Czech race walker.
He finished 20th at the 1991 World Championships, in Tokyo, Japan (50 km) and 40th at the 1997 World Race Walking Cup (50 km) in Poděbrady, Czech Republic. [1] He became Czech champion in 1998 (50 km). [2]

Sportsperson of the Year was a prize awarded annually to the best athletes of Czechoslovakia from 1959 to 1992 by the Club of Czechoslovak Sports Journalists. The first winner was white-water canoer Vladimír Jirásek. From 1961 the prize was also given to the best sports team; the first team recipient was the Czechoslovakia national ice hockey team. Since the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993, the prize has continued in both successor countries as the Sportsperson of the Year of the Czech Republic and the Sportsperson of the Year of Slovakia.

The Prague Half Marathon is an annual half marathon road running event which takes place in Spring on the city streets of Prague, Czech Republic, first held in 1999. It is managed by the same organisation that holds the Prague Marathon in May. The race has a loop course, starting and ending in Jan Palach Square near the Rudolfinum, and largely follows the Vltava river. The competition has enjoyed an increasing level of participation, with around 6500 participants in 2009 and almost 8500 runners taking part in the 2010 event.

The World Cup started in Ramsau, Austria, on 10 December 1986 and finished in Oslo, Norway, on 15 March 1987. Torgny Mogren of Sweden won the overall men's cup and Marjo Matikainen of Finland won the women's.

He went on to win bronze medals at the 2019 World Athletics Championships and the 2020 Summer Olympics, both of those the last time the 50 km was to be featured as an event.
