Java Advanced Imaging (JAI) is a Java platform extension API which allows developers to create their own image manipulation routines.
JAI is provided as a free download directly from Oracle Corporation for the Windows, Solaris, and Linux platforms. Apple Inc. provides an OS X version of the API from their website for Mac OS X v10.3. JAI ships with Mac OS X v10.4 and later.
While the API is provided in Java, platform-specific implementations can either use the pure Java implementation or provide an implementation that takes advantage of native technology on the platform to provide better performance.
The API was superseded by the Java Image I/O API, [1] starting with Java 1.4. [2]

Carbon was one of two primary C-based application programming interfaces (APIs) developed by Apple for the macOS operating system. Developers could use the Carbon APIs to port (“carbonize”) their “classic” Mac applications and software to the Mac OS X platform with little effort, compared to porting the app to the entirely different Cocoa system, which originated in OPENSTEP. OpenAL is a cross-platform audio application programming interface (API). It is designed for efficient rendering of multichannel three-dimensional positional audio. Its API style and conventions deliberately resemble those of OpenGL. OpenAL is an environmental 3D audio library, which can add realism to a game by simulating attenuation, the Doppler effect, and material densities. OpenAL aimed to originally be an open standard and open-source replacement for proprietary 3D audio APIs such as DirectSound and Core Audio, though in practice has largely been implemented on various platforms as a wrapper around said proprietary APIs or as a proprietary and vendor-specific fork. While the reference implementation later became proprietary, there are open source implementations such as OpenAL Soft available.
