He was named as deputy ruler in February 2008 when his elder brother Hamdan was made crown prince. He served as deputy ruler alongside his uncle Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum until the latter's death in March 2021. Since then until 2023,he was the sole deputy ruler under his father Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's reign. In April 2023,his younger brother Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Rashid was also named deputy ruler. In September 2021,he was appointed deputy prime minister and finance minister of the UAE.

Both countries' populations share the same faith and are majorly Muslim.

As per Indian officials,the Kingdom along with its GCC partners are amongst the world's most prominent supporters of India's candidacy for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council,and Bahraini officials have urged India to play a greater role in international affairs. For instance,over concerns about Iran's nuclear programme,Bahrain's Crown Prince requested India to play an active role in resolving the crisis.

The UAE and China have been strong international allies,with significant cooperation across economic,political and cultural aspects.
The United Arab Emirates has an embassy in London while the United Kingdom maintains an embassy in Abu Dhabi and is unique in having another Embassy in Dubai,albeit with His Britannic Majesty's Consul-General to Dubai and the Northern Emirates,as opposed to a separate British Ambassador. The UAE-UK relations have been described as a "special relationship".
The Cabinet of Bahrain is the chief executive body of the Kingdom of Bahrain. According to Article 32 (b) of the 2002 Constitution,"executive authority is vested in the King together with the Council of Ministers and Ministers". The Council of Ministers (Cabinet) is appointed directly by the King . Bahrain has had only two Prime Ministers since the country's independence in 1971,Khalifah ibn Sulman al-Khalifah,the uncle of the reigning King Hamad ibn Isa al-Khalifah. Khalifah ibn Sulman al-Khalifah died on 11 November 2020,and was succeeded by the King's son,Crown Prince Salman. As of 2010,roughly half of the cabinet ministers have been selected from the Al Khalifa family,including the Minister of Defence,Minister of Interior,Minister of Foreign Affairs,Minister of Finance,and Minister of Justice and Islamic Affairs.
