Jay & Joss (Jamie Docherty and Lewis Joss) are a UK contemporary magic and illusionist couple. They met at the world's largest magic convention, got engaged in 2019 [1] and further got married in 2023. [2] Jay & Joss have appeared on Britain's Got Talent, BBC Three, [3] Channel 4, [4] Penn & Teller's Fool Us [5] and Radio X's Chris Moyles Show. [6] They have performed together for over 10 years and are regular entertainers at the Royal Variety Aftershow Party. [7] They are currently regular performers at the three Butlin's sites in the UK.

Characters

Jay is played by Jamie Docherty AIMC [8] (Associate of The Inner Magic Circle), a magician born in Northamptonshire in 1995.

Joss is played by Lewis Joss AIMC, [9] born and raised in Bedfordshire. Lewis started work as an actor [10] before turning his hand to performing magic full-time. Lewis has been promoted to the Associates of The Inner Magic Circle with a Silver Star. [9]

Career

Jay & Joss have performed twice at the Bedford Fringe Festival, the UK's 4th largest fringe festival. [11] [12] In 2020 Jay & Joss co-starred in the BBC Three mini-series School of Hard Tricks, where with other magicians they taught six strangers, battling personal challenges, to master the art of magic for a performance in a sold out theatre. [3] They were featured in the 2020 Channel 4 documentary, A Day in the Life of Coronavirus Britain. [4]

In November 2021 Jay & Joss appeared via a video link in the Rock Paper Magic! episode of Penn & Teller's Fool Us magic competition television series. Their trick was described as "...a really funny routine and perfectly done," but Penn and Teller were not fooled. [5] During 2021 Jay & Joss adapted their shows for a coronavirus lock-downed virtual audience and described to the press the challenges this raised. [13] [14]

They performed at a fundraiser in April 2021 for the Huntington's Disease Association Youth Engagement Service. [15] In September 2022 Jay & Joss performed in London's longest-running theatre magic show on tour, West End Magic, in Norwich. [16] Radio X's Chris Moyles Show featured Jay & Joss in February 2023 assisting a presenter to perform sawing a woman in half live. [6] For the last 3 years Jay & Joss have performed in 250 shows a year across all of Butlin's holiday resorts. [17] [18]

In May 2024 they appeared on Season 17 of Britain's Got Talent, with a wedding-themed routine that captivated both the judges and the audience. The couple, involved judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and Bruno Tonioli in their act. [1]

Awards

In 2017 Lewis Joss won the Northamptonshire Close-Up Magician of the Year Award. [19]

In 2021 Lewis Joss was promoted to the Associates of The Inner Magic Circle with a Silver Star. [9]

John Archer is a British comedy magician, television writer and actor. As well as performing magic, he has also commercially released a number of his tricks through various magic suppliers.

Andi Gladwin is a British magician, speaker, and publisher. He has appeared on television, has lectured for magicians throughout the UK, US, and Europe and written/published books on magic. Gladwin is a Member of the Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star and was granted the Maskelyne Literary Award from the prestigious club.

John Lovick is an American magician, writer, and director. Since the 1990s he has performed as a magician throughout the United States and Canada, as well as England, Australia, New Zealand, and Malaysia.

<i>Penn & Teller: Fool Us</i> American magic competition television series

Penn & Teller: Fool Us is a magic competition television series in which magicians perform tricks in front of American magician-comedian duo Penn & Teller. Its first two seasons were hosted by Jonathan Ross, the third through ninth seasons were hosted by Alyson Hannigan and the tenth season by Brooke Burke. Fool Us was filmed at Fountain Studios in London, England and the Penn & Teller Theater at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, located in Las Vegas. After each performance, if Penn & Teller cannot figure out how a trick was done, the magician(s) who performed it win a Fool Us trophy and a five-star trip to Las Vegas to perform as the opening act in Penn & Teller's show, also at the Rio Hotel & Casino.

Michael Vincent is a British magician. He won The Magic Circle's Close-up Magician of the Year award three times and was also awarded the title of International Magician of the Year in 1993.

John van der Put is an English magician and comedian, who performs under the stage name Piff the Magic Dragon. A winner of multiple awards from British magic societies, he toured as a supporting act for Mumford and Sons and has appeared on Penn & Teller: Fool Us and America's Got Talent. In June 2019, van der Put was named one of Variety's 10 Comics to Watch for 2019. Van der Put lives in Las Vegas and has a residency at The Flamingo.
