JazziDisciples were an amapiano DJ and producer duo originating from South Africa. [1] [2] [3] They were composed of two record producers known by their stage names Mr JazziQ and Josiah De Disciple.

History

JazziDisciples music group members are originally from Alexandra, North of Johannesburg. Their interest for music started at a very early age. They are known for their songs such as Long Lasting, Sgubu Se Monati and their encompassing tag line Amapiano is a lifestyle. [4]

The duo have since their debut performed on top music festivals such as Afropunk Festival, [5] Corona SunSets Festival [6] and YTKO 32 Hour Fest [7] and have shared a stage with local artists in the industry, such as Cassper Nyovest and Black Coffee. [8] [9]

They have appeared on various shows such as the Lockdown House Party on Channel O [10] and festivals in South Africa. [11] They have also had various television and radio appearances and have also had various club and lounge appearances. [12]

On the 1st of November 2019, they released their first studio album titled Disciples of Piano. The album featured collaborations from local musicians such as Okmalumkoolkat, Vigro Deep, Nomisupasta and DJ Buckz. [13]

The duo has also received recognition and nominations for their songs. In 2019, they were nominated for Best Amapiano record at the Dance Music Awards South Africa. [14]

To further expand the duo's sound and vision in 2020 they released solo projects. In March 2020 JazziDisciples released Mr JazziQ's EP titled 0303, which featured vocalist Moonchild Sanelly. [15] [16] Josiah De Disciple's EP titled SOM (Spirits Of Makoela) was released in May 2020. [17]

Musical style

They create dance music containing elements of afro house, house and world music, combining live instruments such as bass, saxophones, keyboards, percussions, flute, and vocals with samplers, effects and synths. [13]

Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, known by her stage name Makhadzi, is a South African singer. Born and raised in Ha-Mashamba, Limpopo, her career began at the age of 12 as dancer prior pursuing a music career as a singer, while she was attending school she signed a record deal with Rita Dee Entertainment and released Muhwalo Uya Ndemela in 2015. Sanelisiwe Twisha, known professionally as Moonchild Sanelly is a South African musician and dancer. She is known for her signature blue-coloured hair and her self-created music genre called "Future ghetto punk". Originally from Port Elizabeth, the singer first came into limelight in the Durban poetry and music scene before relocating to Johannesburg, where she has continued her musical career.

Amanda Faku is a South African singer, performer and songwriter. Born and raised in the township of eZinyoka, Gqeberha. Faku rose to fame as a contestant on The Voice SA season 2 in 2017 and prior to getting recognition in the music industry.

Lwazi Asanda Gwala, better known as DJ Lag is a South African DJ and record producer. He is regarded as the pioneer of gqom, a genre of electronic dance music that emerged in the early 2010s in Durban, South Africa. In 2019, DJ Lag notably collaborated with Tierra Whack, Beyoncé, Moonchild Sanelly, Nija, Yemi Alade and Busiswa on a track called "My Power" on Beyoncé's album, The Lion King: The Gift.

TDK Macassette, whose real name is Thandeka Nompumelelo Mkhwanazi, is a South African dancer, singer, radio host and media personality. She got her break in the music industry when she provided corporate services to DJ Maphorisa after they had been to a corporate gig. She is the founder of a communication management company called Tdeeiosion.

Tumelo Manyoni known professionally as Mr JazziQ, is a South African Amapiano DJ and record producer. He is best known for being a former member of the amapiano DJ duo, JazziDisciples.

Teboho Mochaoa, known commonly by his stage name Morena Leraba is a Lesotho-born singer and rapper. He mainly uses traditional sesotho lyrics and combines them with electro, afro house and Hip hop. His lyrics are deeply rooted in Lesotho's traditional music, poetry, and its sub-genre, famo.

Mongezi Thomas Stuurman, known professionally as Mpura, was a South African rapper, fashion designer and record producer best known for his hit song "Umsebenzi Wethu".

MFR Souls is an South African Amapiano music duo founded in 2012 by Tumelo Nedondwe and Tumelo Mabe, both of whom are DJ and music producers from Katlehong in the East Rand of Johannesburg. Their hit single "Love You Tonight" was commercial success certified platinum in South Africa.

Lethabo Sebetso, professionally known as Focalistic, is a South African rapper. He rose to prominence after releasing the remix of “Ke Star” featuring Davido and Vigro Deep, which is the first South African song to chart in the Billboard Top Triller Global charts. Born and raised in Pretoria, Sebetso was a footballer prior pursuing a music career as a rapper, released his debut studio album Sgubhu Ses Excellent (2020).

"Ke Star" is a single by South African rapper Focalistic. It was released by 18 Area Holdings on April 25, 2020 as lead single from his Extended Play Blecke (2020). It was written by Focalistic and produced by Vigro Deep.

Babili Amos Shili, popularly known by his stage name Aymos is a South African singer-songwriter. He is best known for the hit single "Emcimbini" which was produced by Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa.

Sandile Msimango, popularly known by his stage name Young Stunna is a South African singer. He is known for his hit singles "Bopha" and "Adiwele". He has also extensively worked with record producers DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small.

Buhlebevangeli Hlengiwe Manyathi, professionally known as Boohle, is a South African singer and songwriter. She is popularly known for her songs "Yini Na", "Mama" and "Siyathandana". Her music is a combination of amapiano, afro-house, afro-soul, and gospel.

Josiah Makoela is a South African DJ and record producer commonly known as Josiah De Disciple. He is best known for his time with the Amapiano DJ duo, JazziDisciples, alongside Mr JazziQ. The duo split in 2018 to focus on their individual music careers.

Kabelo Petrus Motha is a South African DJ and record producer, popularly known as Kabza De Small. He is a major figure in the amapiano genre of house music. Aside from his solo career, Motha is a member of the Scorpion Kings. Motha gained international recognition after the release of "Umshove", in 2018.

Tárico Caifaz Samuel Simbine known professionally as DJ Tarico, is a Mozambican DJ, sound engineer and record producer from Maputo signed to Geobek Records. He is noted for his production credits and his 2021 self produced single "Yaba Buluku" off his sophomore studio album Moz Piano Vol. 2 which became an instant hit in several countries and helped in popularizing Amapiano, described by Billboard as a hit for all season.
