Tulu is a Dravidian language whose speakers are concentrated in Dakshina Kannada and in the southern part of Udupi of Karnataka in south-western India and also in the northern parts of the Kasaragod district of Kerala. The native speakers of Tulu are referred to as Tuluva or Tulu people and the geographical area is unofficially called Tulu Nadu.

Beary or Byari is a geographically isolated dialect of Malayalam spoken by the Bearys who are part of the Muslim community in Tulu Nadu region of Southern Karnataka and Northern Kerala. The community is often recognized as Bearys or Beary Muslims. Beary is influenced by Tulu phonology and grammar. Due to the trading role of the community, the language acquired loan words from other languages of Tulu, Kannada, and from Perso-Arabic sources.
Rakshit Shetty is an Indian actor and filmmaker working predominantly in Kannada cinema. Koti Chennaya is 2007 historical Tulu language film based on the lives of Koti and Chennayya, the twin cultural folk heroes of Tulu Nadu. The film, which combines history, folklore and social stratum of yesteryear Tulu Nadu, is directed by Anand P Raju, with R Dhanaraj serving as producer under the banner of Prarthana Creations. The film stars Balakrishna Shetty, Shekar Kotian, Vinaya Prasad and Neethu.
Arjun Kapikad is an Indian actor and singer, who appears in Tulu films and Kannada film industries. He made his acting debut with the 2012 movie, Telikeda Bolli. He is a frequent collaborater with his father Devadas Kapikad.

Madipu is a 2017 Indian Tulu film directed by Chethan Mundadi. Highlighting the futility of the orthodox traditions practiced in the region of Tulu Nadu, the film focuses on Bhootaradhane, a practice of worshipping and appeasing demigods; Buta Kola; and relations between the Hindus and Muslims in the region. The plot revolves around the trouble with depression the protagonist goes through as he steps out of the said practises that he had previously been observing.
The 68th National Film Awards ceremony was an event during which the Directorate of Film Festivals presented its annual National Film Awards to honour the best films of 2020 in Indian cinema. The awards ceremony was originally slated to be held on 3 May 2021 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The winners were declared on 22 July 2022, and the awards were presented on 30 September 2022.
