Santhosh Mada is an Indian filmmaker who works in South Indian cinema. He has received the national award for his Film Jeetige in Tulu Category. [3]

Early life and career

Santhosh was born to Shambhu Nambudiri and Saraswathy. [2] [4] He was born and brought up in Mangalore [5] and had his schooling in Kannada medium. [6] During his childhood, he spent about 10 years at his uncle Kaithapram Damodaran Namboodiri's home. [1]

Santhosh has worked with Jayaraj and Kamal as assistant director. [6] He has also worked with Abhaya Simha, [5] Rosshan Andrrews and Pramod Payyannur. [1] In 2021, his first directorial venture Jeetige won the National Award for the best film in Tulu category. [7] He directed Mogajjana Koli in 2022. [8] Mogajjana Koli is the first film in Arebhashe, a dialect of Kannada spoken by Gowda and other communities. [8]

His 39 movies have been remade 63 times in 9 languages by 34 actors making him the first actor whose movies were remade more than fifty times and the first actor whose movies were remade in nine languages. He was the first actor in India to enact a role which was based on James Bond in a full-fledged manner. The success of his movie Jedara Bale is credited to have widely inspired a Desi bond genre in other Indian film industries. On the occasion of the "Centenary of Indian Cinema" in April 2013, Forbes included his performance in Bangaarada Manushya on its list of "25 Greatest Acting Performances of Indian Cinema". Upon his death, The New York Times had described him as one of India's most popular movie stars.

Arebhashe or Aregannada or Gowda Kannada is a dialect of Kannada mainly by Gowda communities in the region Madikeri, Somwarpet, and Kushalnagar taluks of Kodagu district, Sullia, taluks of Dakshina Kannada district; Bangalore and Mysore districts in the Indian state of Karnataka. As well as Bandadka, Kasaragod District in the Indian state of Kerala, Arebhashe is also called Gowda Kannada. The language was recognized by the Karnataka State government and formed an academy in 2011 to preserve the culture and literature of the Arebhahse Region which is named as Karnataka Arebhashe Samskruthi mathu Sahitya Academy supported by then Chief Minister D. V. Sadananda Gowda.

T. V. Chandran is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and actor, predominantly working in Malayalam cinema. Born in a Malayali family in Telicherry, Chandran worked as a Reserve Bank of India employee before entering the film industry. He started his film career as an assistant director to P. A. Backer. He also acted the lead role in Backer's highly acclaimed political drama Kabani Nadi Chuvannappol (1975). He made his directorial debut with the unreleased feature Krishnan Kutty (1981), and followed this with the Tamil film Hemavin Kadhalargal (1985). Chandran came into prominence after Alicinte Anveshanam (1989), which was nominated for the Golden Leopard at the Locarno International Film Festival. Kotturu Chikkarangappa Raghunath, known by his screen name Rangayana Raghu, is an Indian film and stage actor, known for his work in Kannada cinema. Portraying mostly comic and negative-shaded characters, he has appeared in over 250 films. Prior to acting in films, he worked as a stage actor with B. V. Karanth's theatre group Rangayana, from 1988 to 1999. He made his debut in films in 1995 with Suggi, which got shelved.

Padmarajan Award is instituted by Padmarajan Memorial Trust in memory of author and filmmaker P. Padmarajan.
