Jenkem is an online skateboarding and culture magazine founded in 2011 and operated from Brooklyn, New York. [1] [2] The website features interviews with professional skateboarders, industry professionals, graphic artists, and musicians, as well as video segments, mixtapes, podcasts, essays on skateboard history, and an online clothing store. [3] They have published two full length books of essays and interviews, and maintain a record label that features skateboarder musicians. [4] [5]

History

Jenkem was founded in 2011 by Ian Michna in response to a perceived lack of unique content in skateboard media. [1] It first attracted attention after publishing an interview with professional skateboarder Jereme Rogers and its articles have since been mentioned in the New York Times, Vice, Gawker, and XXL. [6] [7] [8] [9] It has published interviews with the professional skateboarders Andrew Reynolds, Mike Carroll, Bam Margera, and Marc Johnson and been one of a few magazines to cover LGBT professionals. [10] [11] Other notable work includes interviews with Dan Mancina, a blind skateboarder, Ali Jusovic, who skateboards on his knees, a history of the decline of skateboard plazas within the United States, and a video of Kanye West skateboarding. Beginnings - A Jenkem Record

Jenkem magazine released a music compilation series titled "Beginnings - A Jenkem Record" in 2017. The series features bands fronted by skateboarders and was released on Vinyl. [19]

Reynolds primarily skates street.

Jamie Thomas is an American professional skateboarder and skateboard industry entrepreneur. Thomas is the owner and founder of Zero Skateboards and Fallen Footwear, until he announced its closure in January 2017. Thomas' nickname in the skateboard industry is "The Chief".

Zero Skateboards is a skateboard company located in Carlsbad, California, United States. The brand was founded by professional skateboarder and entrepreneur Jamie Thomas, and distributed by his Black Box Distribution company. In late June 2014, Thomas announced that the brand would be distributed by the Dwindle Distribution company, based in El Segundo, California. Subsequently, in 2016, Thomas and Dwindle announced that Zero Skateboards would be operated independently by Thomas.

Transworld Skateboarding (TWS) was an international magazine on skateboarding that was based in Carlsbad, California, United States. The publication also ran an accompanying website and video production company. In February 2019, the publishers of Transworld magazine, The Enthusiast Network, were purchased by American Media, Inc. In March 2019, the print edition of Transworld magazine was discontinued.

Tum Yeto is a skateboard distribution company that operates out of San Diego, California, United States (U.S.).

Dwindle Distribution, based in El Segundo, California, is an American skateboard distributor. It is a component of Transom Capital Group Limited. The company was founded by Steve Rocco and Rodney Mullen. Its formation is recognized as a key event in the creation of a skateboard company owned by people actively involved in the skateboarding lifestyle.

Black Box Distribution was a skateboard distributor owned by professional skateboarder Jamie Thomas. Prior to October 2014, it served seven brands, three of which were owned by Thomas: Fallen Footwear, Mystery Skateboards, and Zero Skateboards. After the company was dissolved, Zero and Fallen moved to Dwindle Distribution.

The Skateboard Mag was an independently published American skateboarding magazine that published over 100 issues and featured professional skateboarder, Danny Way, on the cover of its inaugural issue, depicted mid-air while executing a gap to noseblunt slide on a construction known as the "Mega Ramp". As of February 2005, the publication was owned by a group that consists of seven partners, while the magazine employed eleven full-time staff members. In 2014 it became a part of a website and in 2017 its existence on the website stopped.

Slap Magazine was an American skate magazine created by Kevin Thatcher and Fausto one late night when they sparked an idea to create their own competition. At the time they ran Thrasher Skateboard Mag. The next day they put Lance Dawes in charge of it (1992), while he worked for Thrasher. Slap was distributed by High Speed Productions for 16 years. The Slap Magazine website still serves as a highly popular message board for skateboarding content and conversation.

Skate Jawn is a skateboarding magazine founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 2010 by Marcus Waldron. Skate Jawn produces a bimonthly magazine as well as a yearly photo issue. Skate Jawn releases video content and premieres skate videos via its website.

Patrick O'Dell is an American photographer, filmmaker, skateboarder, and skateboard journalist from Columbus, Ohio.
