Georgina Beyer was a New Zealand Labour Party politician who represented Wairarapa in the Parliament of New Zealand from 1999 to 2005,after serving as mayor of Carterton from 1995 to 1999. Beyer was the world's first openly transgender mayor,and the world's first openly transgender member of parliament. As a member of the Labour Party Beyer supported progressive policies including prostitution law reform,civil unions,anti-discrimination laws,and the promotion of Māori rights. She resigned in 2007,and,in 2014,unsuccessfully stood for election on behalf of the Mana Party.
Georgina is a town in south-central Ontario. The northernmost municipality in the Regional Municipality of York,the town is bounded to the north by Lake Simcoe. Although incorporated as a town,it operates as a township in which dispersed communities share a common administrative council. The largest communities are Keswick,Sutton,and Jackson's Point. Smaller communities include Pefferlaw,Port Bolster,Roches Point,Udora,and Willow Beach. The town was formed by the merger of the Village of Sutton,the Township of Georgina,and the Township of North Gwillimbury in 1971 and incorporated in 1986. North Gwillimbury had been part of Georgina but became its own township in 1826. It took its name from the family of Elizabeth Simcoe,née Gwillim.

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) is a political party in the United Kingdom,established in 1990. The current party traces its origin to the Social Democratic Party,which was formed in 1981 by a group of dissident Labour Party Members of Parliament (MPs) and former Cabinet members Roy Jenkins,David Owen,Bill Rodgers and Shirley Williams,who became known as the Gang of Four. The original SDP merged with the Liberal Party in 1988 to form the Liberal Democrats,but Owen,two other MPs and a minority of party activists formed a breakaway group also called the Social Democratic Party immediately afterwards. That continuing party dissolved itself in the aftermath of a by-election in Bootle,in which the party's candidate received fewer votes than Screaming Lord Sutch's Official Monster Raving Loony Party. However,some SDP activists met and voted to continue the party in defiance of its National Executive,leading to the creation in 1990 of the current Social Democratic Party under the leadership of the candidate who lost that by-election. The party has been led since 2018 by William Clouston.

Andrew Bruce Forbes Williams is a New Zealand former politician. In 2007 he won election as Mayor of North Shore City. Williams served on a community board during 2004–2007,and as a city councillor in the term before that in 2001–2004. North Shore City Council was abolished in October 2010,becoming part of the Auckland "Super City". Williams won election to the New Zealand Parliament on 26 November 2011 as a list MP for the New Zealand First Party,but only served one term.

As the council is elected by thirds,one seat in each of the wards was up for election,with the exception of Cherry Hinton ward where two seats were up for election due to the early retirement of Councillor Stuart Newbold. The vote took place alongside the 2011 United Kingdom Alternative Vote referendum and a Cambridgeshire County Council by-election for Arbury ward.

Sarah Brown is a transgender activist and former Liberal Democrat politician. She was the Cambridge City Councillor for Petersfield ward between 2010 and 2014,serving as Executive Councillor for Community Wellbeing since 2013 and served as a member of the LGBT+ Liberal Democrats executive. She is a trans woman and,for several years,was the only openly transgender elected politician in the UK. In 2011,she appeared on the Independent on Sunday "Pink List" as the 28th most influential LGBT person in the UK,dropping to 34th in the 2012 list,but rising again to 27th in the 2013 list.
The mayor of Wrexham is the civic figurehead and first citizen of the city of Wrexham,and Wrexham County Borough in the north of Wales. The position is elected by members of Wrexham County Borough Council at their annual meeting,and today,holders of the position mainly serve a one-year term. The position is currently held by Councillor Beryl Blackmore of Marford and Hoseley for the 2024/2025 term.
