Jens-Daniel Herzog (born 12 July 1964) is a German stage director for play and opera, and a theater manager.
Jens-Daniel Herzog was born in Berlin, the son of the actor Peter Herzog. He studied Philosophy at the FU Berlin. [1]
From 1989 Herzog was an assistant to the stage directors Dieter Dorn and Hans Lietzau at the Münchner Kammerspiele. In 1993 he directed there the premiere of Marlene Streeruwitz's New York. New York, in 1994 the premiere of Simone Schneider's Die Nationalgaleristen, also Die Nacht kurz vor den Wäldern ( The Night Just Before The Forests ) of Bernard-Marie Koltès. His production of David Mamet's Oleanna at the Schauspielhaus Zürich was invited to the festival Berliner Theatertreffen. [1]
From 1995 Herzog was stage director and "Oberspielleiter" at the Kammerspiele. [1] He also staged plays at the Hamburg Thalia Theater, the Burgtheater in Vienna and the Schauspiel Frankfurt. His first opera productions were Wagner's Tannhäuser and Tchaikovsky's Pique Dame in Zurich. [2] Tannhäuser, conducted by Franz Welser-Möst with Peter Seiffert in the title role, was recorded on DVD in 2003. [3]
From 2000 to 2006 he was Schauspieldirektor at the Nationaltheater Mannheim and also staged there Mozart's operas Così fan tutte and Die Entführung aus dem Serail , and Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg . [2]
In 2007 Herzog staged at the Zurich Opera Humperdinck's Königskinder , conducted by Ingo Metzmacher, with Jonas Kaufmann as the King's Son, Isabel Rey as the Goose Girl, and Liliana Nikiteanu as the Witch. [4] Herzog's 2008 Zurich production of Handel's opera Rinaldo , conducted by William Christie, was recorded on DVD, moving the scene from Jerusalem during the First Crusade to an airport lounge. [5] In 2008 he also staged the "domestic comedy" Intermezzo of Richard Strauss, conducted by Peter Schneider, with Christiane Kohl as Christine, "the composer's formidable — and frequently hysterical — wife", Rod Gilfry as the composer, and Roberto Saccà as Baron Lummer. [6] His first production at the Semperoper was in 2009 Handel's Giulio Cesare in Egitto . [7]
Herzog has been Director of the Dortmund Opera since August 2011, [8] where he first staged Wagner's Der fliegende Holländer , conducted by Jac van Steen, with Andreas Macco in the title role and Christiane Kohl as Senta. [9] In March 2012, he staged Mendelssohn's oratorio Elias, with Christian Sist in the title role, as a polit story, presenting scenes such as an intensive care unit, a beach party and a presidential campaign. [10] [11] [12] Herzog staged Die Zauberflöte at the opening of the Salzburg Festival 2012, conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt. [13] [14]

Opernhaus Dortmund is the opera house of Dortmund, Germany, operated by the Theater Dortmund organisation. A new opera house opened in 1966, replacing an earlier facility which opened in 1904 and was destroyed during World War I. It was built on the former site of the Old Synagogue, which was demolished by the Nazi local government in the 1930s.

Michael Hampe is a German theatre and opera director, general manager (Intendant) and actor. He developed from acting and directing plays at German and Swiss theatres including the Bern Theatre, to focus on directing opera and managing opera houses, first at the Mannheim National Theatre, then the Cologne Opera from 1975. He was professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln since 1977. Hampe was influential for both the Salzburg Festival and, after the reunification of Germany, the Dresden Music Festival for which he commissioned and directed world premieres. He directed at international opera houses and festivals, including productions recorded for television, film and DVD.

Christoph Strehl is a German tenor in opera and concert. He has appeared at major opera houses internationally, regarded as a specialist for Mozart roles, but performing a broad repertoire. He appeared as Don Ottavio in Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Salzburg Festival conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt and as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte with Claudio Abbado on the conductor's first recording of the opera. He is professor of voice at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
Claus Guth is a German theatre director, focused on opera. He has directed operas at major houses and festivals, including world premieres such as works of the Munich Biennale, and Berio's Cronaca del luogo at the Salzburg Festival in 1999. Guth is particularly known for his opera productions of the works of Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss. He has received two Faust awards, for Daphne by Richard Strauss in 2010, and for Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande, both at the Oper Frankfurt.
