Jeremiah Pai is a New Zealand former professional rugby league footballer who last played for the Point Chevalier Pirates.

Early years

He was first noticed when playing for the Eastern Tornadoes in the Bartercard Cup before making his National Rugby League debut for the New Zealand Warriors in 2002.

Australia

After leaving the club he had stints with the Wests Tigers and in Parramatta and Melbourne but could not break into the first grade side. [2] [3] During his time with Melbourne he played for the North Sydney Bears due to a feeder agreement between the two clubs. [4]

Return to New Zealand

He then returned to New Zealand where played for the East Coast Bays Barracudas, Northcote Tigers and Hibiscus Coast Raiders and represented Auckland in both the New South Wales Cup and the Bartercard Premiership. [5]

In 2006 Pai represented the New Zealand Māori side in a three match series against the Cook Islands. [6]

In 2011, while playing for the Northcote Tigers, Pai won the Auckland Rugby League's Player of the Year award and was named at standoff in the Team of the Year. [7] In 2012 Pai moved clubs, joining the Point Chevalier Pirates. [8] [9]

He was named in the New Zealand Māori squad in 2015 to play Auckland. [10]

The Fox Memorial is awarded to the premier club rugby league champions in the Auckland Rugby League. It was first awarded in 1931 and is named after Edward Vincent Fox who played for North Shore Albions, and represented Auckland in 1914. He fought in World War I and received leg injuries in 1916 which ended his playing career. The first ever grand final was played in 1958 between Ponsonby and Otahuhu. Prior to this the trophy was awarded to the team at the top of the standings from the regular season though occasionally a playoff was needed to decide the champion. The majority of the grand finals were played at Carlaw Park, but after the ground was vacated by Auckland Rugby League in the early 2000s the games have usually been played at Mt Smart Stadium.
